Guest guest
I have been following this thread carefully having a 7 year old (year 2) who now refuses to write near me, because I told him that his teacher said his writing is awful. There is no doubt that it is, and it seems to be because he holds his pen so hard and presses down so hard. He enjoys writing and is very bright and I think that perhaps a bigger issue is been made of his writing because of this. If he was weak at say maths then that would attract more comments than his handwriting. His writing at school does seem to be improving but he will only write the bare minimum at home. One of the items in that SATS is handwriting and they will be marked down if it is not neat enough. With respect to homework. He gets reading most nights (but that is not a problem to him) and spellings when she has picked up constant misspelling of words. They also get 1 maths work sheet a week given out on a Friday to be handed in on Monday/Tuesday. My year 1 gets reading twice a week and spellings ever Friday. Trisha SAHM to 3 boys all in bed thank God!
