Debbie,

Sorry you are having to go through the nervous of yet another test and wondering what will come of it! Know tthat you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is nerve-racking being told something is wrong but not being told exactly what it is.

I haven't had a bone scan so can't help you with that one. It doesn't so too painful from what describes, other than the awfulness of having to lay still so long like she says. That in itself is painful I know.

When is it scheduled for? Please keep us updated Debbie, we are thinking of you.

Take care,

Kim

Debbie, for a bone scan they lay you flat on your back...without ANY moving...and run you through the machine. The test takes about 45-60 minutes. Mine took a little longer cuz i moved my leg once. oops. The table was so hard to lay on and I needed three people to help me get up and then I had a tremendous body cramp all up my abdomen. That was painful, too. The hardest part was laying so still for so long on such a hard table. But i've had worse tests. Hope all turns out well. hugs S.......ps I've heard of people getting sarc in the bone marrow and I think they may be checking for that, too, Debbie wrote:

The neurologist said they are doing it to make sure it isn't cancer or more sarcoid in my body. I would appreciate any info in this matter. Thanks. Luv, Debbie

Hi all.

Recently my neurologist ordered a couple of MRI's for me. One for the cervical spine, the other for the thoracic spine. The one for the thoracic spine came back abnormal. Debbie,

My cervical and thoracic spine MRI's also came back abnormal, but my

neuro ordered a Spinal tap. Don't know if it is relevant.

Debbie, did they say what " abnormal " meant? All of my spine

MRI's--cervical, thoracic & lumbar--are abnormal because of degenerative

changes, herniated disks, stenosis, etc. Other than a cervical spinal

fusion in 2000, not much to do about any of it. I did have a bone scan last

year because of my persistent hip & thigh pain, which didn't seem to

correlate with the MRI's. I can't remember for sure, but I think I just

went in and had an injection of dye, then went back later for some kind of

full body scan. I never mind any of that stuff; I can doze off in the

closed MRI machine. The only thing it showed was degenerative changes of my

right knee, which I've torn up twice, and a probable rib fracture! I have

no idea when that happened! So, all in all, the test didn't bother me, but

didn't enlighten us either. A neurosurgeon had ordered it. As a last

resort after that, I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon, who immediately

told me I had hip bursitis, gave me a Kenalog (like a steroid, I think)

injection into the joint, with immediate pain relief in the hip. Didn't

help the thigh, but the hip was a biggie. The relief lasted about 3 months,

then I got another, but no insurance by then & it costs $200. So I'll be

sucking it up & tolerating the pain in the future. I'm still feeling pretty

good, but I'm coming up on the 3 month line; hope I get a few more weeks

relief. Rose

Debbie, I did ask for a folded towel to put under the small of my back and a foam roll for under my knees. I told them I could not lie still for very long without something under my back & knees. Rose

Debbie,

Like Rose all of my MRI's are normal. The bone scan though is easier and not as "closed" as the traditional MRI. I went in and got the contrast to drink and went back a few hours later for the scan. I have actually had two. Mine are never normal nor abnormal. They see weird things but chalk it up to "pooling of the contrast". Like Rose mine shows rib fractures but almost in every rib. Go figure. Could it be from the NS? Who knows.

Take care

Rose,

The neurologist thinks it may either be more sarcoid or cancer . I don't how she came to that conclusion. I am going myself today to get the records on the orignal MRI's from the Xray dept to get the actual reports so I can read them for myself. I like to keep my medical records updated anyway. that's interesting about the rib fractures. I've actually had an intermittent severe pain in the front ribs, just above the liver. It comes on every few months & takes my breath away, then is just very tender for a few days. But this pain isn't where the alleged fracture is.

Rose,

My last ct scan showed multiple rib fractures over an extended period of time (like the prednisone years), and once in awhile, my DC will manage to trigger another bout of them.

I figure with all the steroids, all the immuno-suppressants, and now with the lungs themselves stiffening, the muscle/ligament band that surrounds my thoracic spine is bound to give-- to usually a good cough.

As far as the pain above the liver-- drink more fluids. And know that it's your liver fighting the drugs you're using to poison yourself with-- (MILK THISTLE!!!!) as well as the inflammation from the sarc hitting the liver. Nasty bugger.

Hugs, gently to not hurt anyone elses ribs,

Tracie

Rose,

Who knows if they know what is going on or not. Just remember, they put their pants on just like we do. Rose wrote:

Terri, that's interesting about the rib fractures. I've actually had an intermittent severe pain in the front ribs, just above the liver. It comes on every few months & takes my breath away, then is just very tender for a few days. But this pain isn't where the alleged fracture is. Huh. Maybe the radiologists don't know how to read the scans! Nah, surely not. There I go, being cynical again. Rose

Ta-daa! I've been taking milk thistle for several weeks, Racie Tracie! That's very considerate, reminding us of the gentle hugs. Wouldn't that be something, if we met face to face, for instance, you and I, and I gave you an enthusiastic bear hug, fractured a rib, maybe even your sternum, and punctured a lung. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

But this pain isn't where the alleged fracture is.Rose,My last ct scan showed multiple rib fractures over an extended period of time (like the prednisone years), and once in awhile, my DC will manage to trigger another bout of them. Nasty bugger.Hugs, gently to not hurt anyone elses ribs,Tracie ~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- Has been cancelled for now.Message Archives:-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/database
