Take a prenatal vitamin and 100-250 mg vitamin C 3 or 4 times a day. Take fish or flax or walnut oil and a few hundred IU of natural vitamin E. Take 100 mg magnesium 3 or 4 times a day. Otherwise don't do a lot. Avoid stress. Don't get all stressed out, this messes with your hormones and can affect the baby. No vaccinations, no shots, no nothing at the hospital. Have daddy follow the kid around, no matter what you say they are likely to just take your baby somewhere else and do it if you don't have adult supervision at all times. > Are there any studies on this? No. Since all the risks are due to doctors hurting people, doctors won't study these issues. > > Thanks, > Kathy Heilmann > kathyheilmann@y... Guest guest
Thank you, Andy, for this advice. Can you or someone else on the list recommend a particular brand of fish oil as I have heard that some can contain mercury and I certainly don't want to risk that. Or would flax or walnut oil be a better choice? Guest guest
I would go for flax. Dagmar. Re: [ ] Re: Improving the chances for subsequent children Thank you, Andy, for this advice. Guest guest
Kathy, I also suggest fish oils every day, along with zinc and selenium. I used Spectrum oils or Nordic Naturals http://www.nordicnaturals.com/direct/ultimateomega.asp I did not allow my baby to be vaccinated at all, she's now a healthy 20 mo old. I also have a 7 yr old NT daughter who was fully immunized up to her 5th bday, when I chose to refrain from boosters because the doctor chose not to test for titer levels and if he chose to refuse my request, I could not fulfill his. My nearly 5 yr old daughter is ASD. She will not be having any more immunizations, either. HTH and congrats on your pregnancy! Enjoy him/her growing in you and trust in The Big Guy to take care of you all! Debi > Hi all, I just joined this group, so please forgive me if this has > been discussed recently. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Congratulations! P.S. I use Nordic Naturals Complete Omega (fish oil.) I'm assuming Andy did NOT mean cod liver oil.
Guest guest
I would also suggest you consider a calcium supplement throughout pregnancy and lactation. This should reduce the amount of leaching of calcium (and stored lead)from your bones into your bloodstream. Can you or someone > else on the list recommend a particular brand of fish > oil as I have heard that some can contain mercury and > I certainly don't want to risk that. Or would flax or > walnut oil be a better choice? > Hi Kathy, Definitely go for the fish oil. The omega 3 fatty acids you want for pregnancy are the ones in fish oil, not flax or walnut oil. *Some* people can convert the omega 3s in flax and other plant oils to the longer chain 3s found in fish oil, but many cannot due to genetics, various health conditions, age, etc. So your only guarantee of getting the omega 3s your body requires is by consuming fish oil, as well as grass-fed animal fats such as pastured eggs, and fatty cuts of meat. They aren't as packed with omega 3s as fish oil, but are an excellent natural source of long chain omega 3s. As for brands of fish oil, stick to ones that are molecularly distilled. This process removes heavy metals. I typically use Natural Factors brand, but Zone Perfect and Thorne are also molecularly distilled. I'm sure there are other molecularly distilled brands as well that I'm not aware of. If the fish oil is not molecularly distilled, and you want to use it, call the company and ask for assays (test results) of the oil which they should do periodically to test for heavy metals, PCBs and other toxins. They should be happy to provide you with copies. I did this with Natural Factors and they were very accommodating. I would also be sure to get some Cod Liver Oil in your diet for the vitamin A which is essential to the healthy development of the fetus. You could alternate it with fish body oil. See " Diet for Pregnant and Nursing Mothers " from the Weston A. Price Foundation for more info on how to eat to have a healthy baby: http://www.westonaprice.org/children/dietformothers.html Suze
Guest guest
Make sure it's not dolomite or oyster shell since those often contain more lead.
