Hi Everyone! Wow, seems I've missed quite a bit while I've been

away. Things have been quite hectic lately. We're finally getting

serious about wedding plans, summer break is starting so we're

getting ready for day camps, schedules changing, work has been busy,

and of course... Vinny has been going a mile a minute! He's cruising

the furniture with and without the bar quite well... and FAST! He's

climbing up the stairs, but doesn't have much access to them so this

is a slow process, I'm in no hurry to speed up.

Anyway, to my question for those of you with older kids. Both of my

other sons were in a toddler bed shortly after turning 1yr old. When

they could walk, and get off the sofa by themselves (learning to

swing thier legs down and slide on thier tummy to the floor, and to

watch the edge so they don't fall off). Well, Vinny is getting

there. We're taking our time on the sofa, he's more comfortable

without shoes than with. How did others handle the transition from

crib to bed when they have to wear the FAB at night.

Vinny is quite confident standing on it, without a doubt. Sometimes

I think he prefers it, because he moves faster in it (traction!)...

then he takes them off and its another story.

I'm interested to hear how you worked around this.

Thanks,

Laurie - Vinny's Mommy

Hi. I have 2 older daughters (non clubfoot) and a son who is one, with

bilateral clubfoot. My daughters both went into a 'single' bed when they

were approaching 2. I don't think I would have tried it before this and i

most certainly won't be trying it with my son before this. We have bought

him a cute little car bed which isn't very high but don't feel he is

anywhere near ready for that yet. He can do the settee and stairs etc but I

have to be watching him as he can get stuck with his bar on. I just feel he

is safer in his cot. He still thrashes about, in his sleep, quite a lot too

with his bar on.

Hi Laurie, we've been addressing this issue with our little guy

kelby (8-3-01 bilateral). a few months ago we took him out of the

crib and put a twin bed on the floor, this has worked fine but i

wanted him to be in a bed because he kept rolling off the matress

and would sleep on the floor! so this week i got him a box spring

and frame for his twin bed, pushed one side against the wall and got

one of those rails that goes on both sides of the bed ~ one to keep

him from falling out and one to protect the wall! my husband

thought it was a mistake and said that he'd get out and would cry

because he couldn't get back up again...but he can get down and get

back up in 5 seconds flat! he's almost 3 and has been in his brace

since he can remember, so it's totally a part of him at night! hope

this helps!

My first child (who didn't have clubfoot) went to a big boy bed

during his second year of life. is 2 years and 9 months and he

is still in his crib and I will leave him there as long as possible!

(When the tip of his head is touching the rails of the head of the

bed and his feet are poking out of the rails at the foot.) Just

kidding! He is a very strong willed child. And he does so well with

his afternoon naps. I'm afraid if we move him to a bed he would

think he was the boss of bedtime/naptime. So really I guess it

doesn't have a lot to do with his clubfeet except I'm afraid he would

be more likely to hurt himself if he fell out of bed. I think we'll

know when the time is right for him.

Laurie,

I was worried about the transition from crib to bed but everything

went fine. We bought him a fire engine bed so he wouldn't roll out

with the DBB on, but he can still get out if he goes to the end

where the opening part is, there is a photo of him sitting in his

DBB in the opening on our website. It's at

http://www.geocities.com/chele323232 I think it is in the foot

story page or the photos page, I can't remember right now. Good

Luck!

Michele
