Guest guest
, Gut reaction? OMG ! Looks a bit dangerous even for someone that does NOT have a thyroid problem. I am even wondering how it could be legal, unless it is mostly water or alcohol... Makes think of the people I find here and there that KNOW it was a self treatment for loosing weight that caused their Graves' in the first place. Personally, I have worked to long and hard to get where I am now to take a chance of going backwards. But I could be wrong. -Pam L -

Guest guest
, Using alternatives can be a very good thing, but first you MUST learn all that you can about them, just as you would about using atd's, taking RAI or surgery...going by trial and error and giving different things a bit of a try could end up being very very dangerous. Those that I know, B, Pam B, B, C. from this group have all done a huge amount of research AND were monitored either by their doctors or an ND while doing this. To do this without being properly monitored and without doing some serious research could really be dangerous and make things so much worse. Guest guest
Hi , Jody is so right. I doubt that any doc, MD or ND would suggest you use this product. No matter what course of action you take you should have a doc to monitor your labs as you go. You do have an ND working with you don't you? I think I remember you MD refuses to treat you or give you a referal, right? :)Pam B.

Guest guest
Thanks for your feedback. Here is where I stand with my MD...he has decided that since my GD is still mild that alternative treatment may be the best thing right now to prevent it from progressing. I gave him Elaine's book and he told me to try the bugleweed and motherwort, but that he did not know where I could get it. I told him what you said Pam about having to have a RX for it and he said that he never heard of that before. He advised me to try the internet to find some since the health food stores don't carry it. This is where I am at right now. Pretty much on my own trying to get some bugleweed and motherwort. I ran across this other thing on this site and just thought I would ask about it. My GP said to come back in 3 months and he would do some more blood work to check where things are at. In case you don't remember my story, my T3 and T4 are still within normal range at this point. I have a low TSH and the uptake scan showed hyperthyroidism. I was experiencing some symptoms which is what brought me to the Dr. in the first place. Now I guess I just need to find a doctor more knowledgeable about alternative treatments. My GP supports this right now, just has no experience with it. - P.S. this site did have bugleweed also, I just don't know if it is the right kind. ~For Excellent Educational and Children's Books ~visit my site below: http://www.ubah.com/D1226 Re: Thyroid - Pituitary Formula Tincture 2 fl. oz., 100% Organic Hi , Jody is so right. Guest guest
Pam L., Your comment about self treatments for loosing weight makes me curious since I took metabolife for several years prior to my Graves. Makes me wonder now if that could have been a contributing factor to my development of GD??? Re: Thyroid - Pituitary Formula Tincture 2 fl. oz., 100% Organic , Gut reaction? OMG ! Guest guest
Hi , SHAME ON YOUR GP!!! He has no business telling you to do anything homeopathic without being monitored and by someone who knows and understands the use of herbs and tinctures! If you are going to go an alternative route, then I highly suggest you find an ND in your area who knows how to use those herbs and tinctures and monitor you while using them. I would turn this jerk in to the medical authorities in your state! They ARE dangerous when someone does not know what they are doing. The bugleweed you find in many herbal shops is not a pure form and the strength is much different than what ND's use with a perscription. , you need to find someone who knows and understands the use of alternatives if this is the route you want to take. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for refreshing my memory. If your T3 and T4 are in the normal ranges then taking bugleweed is going to make you hypO. You don't want that. And, blood tests in 3 months is way too far away. I really think you need to find a new doctor - maybe a new MD and an ND. Pam B.
Guest guest
Hi , One of the folks like or Pam B would be able to tell you this. My area is very limited in what we have for alternative practitioners and I use my endo and ophtho and GP as well as do some energy work taught to me by my sister. I find these alternative journey's fascinating and encouraging, and I don't want to discourage you from going this route, but do think you need to be monitored by someone who knows how to use this stuff. Herbs are a medicine and just because we don't need a prescription for many of them, they can still be dangerous when we don't know how to do this. I don't know if your insurance would cover this or not, mine allows for some alternative treatments but is very very limited in what it will allow. Even if you did have to pay out of pocket for an ND, your blood work should still be covered. You are going through so much and trying to do it on your own is not easy, can't you begin with a new GP and fire this one? He really scares me for you. He is the one who won't send you to an endo also isn't he? Plus you are worrying about your son and what is going on with him...too much on your plate. Are you doing any mediation or yoga to help release some of the stress? Have you beeen to 's site at ithyroid.com? He has some good guidelines and a good place to begin to really learn about alternatives, but you still need to be properly monitored, no matter which way you go with getting healthy again. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice Jody. No, I am not doing much for stress right now. On top of mine and my son's hyper problem I am dealing with taking care of my 83 year old mother who has renal failure and diabetes, and supporting my sister who's husband just passed away last week. I guess I do have an awful lot on my plate right now I will check out 's site though. I am a little leery about changing doctors, I have had so many bad experiences with them. Not that the one I have is that good, but at least he listens to me and is open to hearing what treatments I want to use. I just think he lacks experience in treating thyroid problems. My fear is that another doctor will insist on RAI and not listen to me. Like the Endo I took my son to who did not want to listen to me or talk to me about my son's treatment. He just handed me a RX for PTU and said wait until the blood work is back to fill it. It is just very difficult to find a good Dr. it seems. Guest guest
Oh , You have even more on your plate than what we were aware of. My heart just goes out to you. That being said from the heart, I am going to be straight up with you on this doctor thing . Your doctor may listen to you, but he is not treating you, not medically and certainly not with respect. Any doctor who sends a patient off on their own to 'play' with herbs and tinctures when neither one of you has a clue to what your doing is dangerous and could cost you YOUR life I know it is so very hard to change doctors, especially when you have gone through several already and the next one seems worse than the one before...but persevere here, you WILL find a doctor that you will click with, it just takes time I have fired 2 endo's, 2 primaries and 1 eye doctor in the last 2 years next month and I am so very thankful I stuck with it, insisting I find doctors who I can work with and who will work *with* me. I now have an endo I treasure, a GP who is thorough and doesn't know what to make of me, and I have compromised with ;-) and an ophthalmologist, who has no bedside manner but knows his stuff and calls me 'challenging' which I take as a compliment. Yes, it is hard work to do this, but when you find those doctors who are treasures it really makes a difference in the quality of health that you get returned to you. Now, for relaxing, or reducing stress, with your life the way it is, I know you don't have a lot of time for yourself, but somehow you need to find a way to take care of you too...maybe a nice long nightly soak in a warm tub with candles burning where you can do some deep breathing and just let go of all that has been piling up, maybe in the beginning a good cry, a pray, turning it all over to God, however you decide to do this...but a bathroom door closed and locked, some soft light and breath, nice slow deep breathing...and do this again when you lay in bed at night, and think about what your doing. Breathe in deep and slowly, deep into the belly, then blow it out just as slowly. Concentrate only on this ...breathing like this really will help you so much more than you realize right now. Do you have the top docs link? Start there with trying to find an ND or a GP that is recommended by other patients. This is where I found my current endo...doctors who have more than one recommendation by actual patients are good to start with. If there is anything I can do to help you find another doctor, I will be happy to help you , but you need to find a doctor who is going to help you, first and foremost...taking care of everyone else and ignoring yourself is something I do understand, my life use to be that way...but what happens to everyone else, if your too sick to do it? *HUGZ* for you , I will keep you in my prayers, Jody _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Guest guest
Thanks Jody :-) Your kind words of advice and support are appreciated. I did try the top docs list for an Endo although could not find one closer than a hour away. I guess I may just have to make the drive. I live about an hour and a half from Chicago and I am sure there are some good ones there, was just hoping to find one closer. I just made that drive last week to take my son to the pediatric endo and it was an all day excursion. I also home school my son, who has learning disabilities on top of his physical problems. I gave up a full time as a counselor three years ago to home school him. I am aware of all the stress reduction techniques, just have a hard time applying them to myself I will take another look at the top docs list for an ND or maybe another GP. ~For Excellent Educational and Children's Books ~visit my site below: http://www.ubah.com/D1226 Re: Thyroid - Pituitary Formula Tincture 2 fl. oz., 100% Organic Oh , You have even more on your plate than what we were aware of. Guest guest
Hi , I drive 2 hours to see both my endo and ophthalmologist, and I hate the drive on the thruway...thank God for my husband who does the actual driving! It is so worth it though to have 2 wonderful doctors up there and they have worked with me to schedule my appointments for both on the same day so we do it once every 3 months now...though I do get my labs done locally every 4-6 weeks. Debbie R from this group also homeschools her children, so you two have lots in common. Debbie has been off all meds for over 2 years now. I give you both a lot of credit in the homeschooling, I doubt very much I would have ever had the patients to do that with my kids way back when. , give yourself a huge gift and start the relaxation techniques, or at the very least, the deep breathing several times a day. It will help towards alleviating some of your symptoms like anxiety and/or panic, should help with slowing down the heart also. This is the biggest gift we can give ourselves! Take care, Jody _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
