I just want to qualify here, by brutal, I meant emotionally. Had there been anything even remotely physical, let alone physically " brutal " I'd have gotten the police/authorities involved immediately. The boy's response was simply incredibly mean. Phone calls, whispered taunts in the halls, nasty comments in the lunch room and on the bus ... it lasted only 2 days, a Thursday and Friday. And she had him/them handled quite well by Monday morning. Best -- Jill

Also due to an " accident " that involved fingernails. I had the school (and the girls involved) on alert that if such an " accident " occurred again, I would bring in the authorities. They all took it very seriously. I hated 2nd and 3rd grade! Believe it or not, 4th and 5th were easier, but those involved more tears and mood swings. My heart goes out to your daughter ... you should be so proud of her for dealing with it all so successfully! And I'm taking hers a success story for my . Our 's friends are currently about half male and female. Her two " best friends " are a boy and a girl. There are a couple boys who've been her buddies since they were 4-years-old, like a built-in collection of big brothers. They were her champions last week, literally escorting her through the halls. The girlfriends were empathetic and supportive. Of course, I found out about all this on a tearful Friday night, basically after the fact. And we're not even halfway through middle school yet ... I'm the one who may have not make it to college age. (grin). Things were/are much easier for Ian, even after adding his hearing loss into the mix! Guest guest
To be blunt. Eight year old girls can be the cruelest, nastiest, pickiest girls on the earth. My daughter was perfect in every way...beautiful, slender, smart, talented, charming. She developed social anxiety disorder from the cruelty of the girls she had to deal with around here from age 8 through middle school. They found reason after reason to ostracize her. She's still dealing with the results. She actually has a thin long scar on her forehead where one of the girls in 5th or 6th grade intentionally knocked a music stand that holds music off of the stage onto her head where she was standing below. Her only friends were boys. Now, she'll soon be graduating from college and almost all of her friends are male.
