I have puffy gums (inherited mostly I think) that need to be 'shaved' which means they'll expose more of the crown because my teeth are really short, at the same time, he'll also do a thurough cleaning as I have some build up and after my mouth heals, I'll meet with my orthodontist for my first consult.. . I LOVE the smiley by the way!! Where'd you get it?? I'm thinking the mini's are the same kind I'll have. You know.. my only two goals in life have ever been (other than healthy & happy) are to go to med school & get braces... both of which I thought were impossible. Boy, was I wrong . The edema that we get is also in the gums making for some buildup of bacteria. I found all this out during my VERY frustrating run-up to get braces. I was told I had perio disease for the first time in my life and of course the doc there was convinced it had nothing to do with thyroid. AFTER lots of research...it appears that the overwhelming evidence points to the hypo T...being responsible. YET...another VERY IMPORTANT thing the docs and dentists....don't know!!! Guest guest Posted December 6, 2006 Report Share Posted December 6, 2006 God I hope I'm going... I'm not going right now because I have to obtain my Bachelor's and I'm finishing my first year in. I first went a few years ago when I was having problems with my concentration levels so I will probably redo those grades. It is my greatest hope to have my Bachelor's by 2010-2011 so that I can graduate from med school in 2015. I know I'll get there... they have to admit me. While helping others improve their quality of life is my second reason for going, my first is knowing 'from the inside' how to deal with my body and how 'special' it is LOL. If for some reason I don't get in after my Bachelor's, I'll apply after my Master's and I'll keep applying until they let me in. I'm fairly certain I'll get in with no problems as they prefer students who are diverse and who want to practice in the region as it is really really malnourished when it comes to doctors who 'get it'.
