Guest guest
I had heard that they use the pasta water to cook the vegetables. Please don't rely on my faulty memory - ask the restaurant if it is true. I don't eat there because everything is so fattening! cheryl in colorado Can a Celiac eat at Olive Garden? Posted by: "Rejoyce Hanson" rejoyce1@... lrejoyce Fri Jun 9, 2006 7:08 pm (PST) Our town opened up an Olive Garden a little bit ago. My dh and I liked it very much years ago. I keep thinking about the menu and wondering if we could go as a family or not... So, does anyone with Celiacs here eat at the Olive Garden and if so -- what? I see the Garden Fare has a Gluten Intolerant note at the bottom to ask the manager. I'd like to maybe go out to eat next week and take the kids. Guest guest
I ate at the Olive Garden not that long ago. I was there for a big anniversary party for my parents and I was prepared to not eat anything, and then eat when I got home. However when I got there I noticed something on the menu I could eat. The only thing I could find was the grilled salmon with broccoli. Also, the salad is gluten free (without the croutons). But you might check with your local restaurant because I heard that their menu varies depending on the location

Guest guest
I have never eaten at the Olive Garden, although I've walked in, looked at the menu, and left again. It just didn't have enough that interested me, and it was too wheat heavy for my comfort. But, if you're interested in a kind of traditional Italian place, I heard recently that at select locations, The Old Spaghetti Factory is trying a gluten free menu and offering gluten free pasta. I haven't tried it yet- of course, the question is whether they really have the cross contamination issue under control. But, at least they are trying. You might check their web site to see if your local restaurant offers this new gluten free pasta. > > I was looking around the web and found this: > > OLIVE GARDEN 8/05 > Let your server know you are interested in menu items especially for Gluten Intolerance. Guest guest
I agree with you on the Olive Garden menu. I haven't eaten there since I was diagnosed. I've never heard of the Old Spaghetti Factory. I don't think they have one out here in New Mexico. We do have a Paissanos (Italian). The last I heard, the owner is a Celiac. They have a GF menu that looks pretty good. I haven't eaten there yet, but am looking forward to trying it. I have a couple of friends that said it's pretty good. They even have a GF lasagna. Mmmmm... One day... Cheryl seamaiden399 wrote: I have never eaten at the Olive Garden, although I've walked in, looked at the menu, and left again. Guest guest
Ester, I heard you there, I could have written the same words. It has turned my family lives upside down as well. We used to eat out A LOT...more than anyone else I know. So often the managers don't want to say something is okay...for who knows what reason, either good conscience or fear of legal issues. So often they use spices that have wheat/gluten in the veggies...to give them added flavor I would guess. Anyway, I just wanted to empathize with you! You said: "the manager went through the whole menu with me and ruled justabout everything out. He wouldn't/couldn't in good conscienceserve me any standard meal. Even the vegetables were unsafe. Our family dined out frequently. My going GF has really turnedour lives upside down."
