Guest guest
Totally random thought here... but I was just crusing DWLZ and looking over the restaurant point values. As if I needed any reminder about how bad some fast food is, I was still a little surprised at some of the values. Take Sonic's breakfast burrito, for instance. 18 points! That's more than their breakfast sandwiches, which are essentially the same ingredients only served on inch thick bread. Now how difficult would it be to produce a breakfast burrito for fewer points? 2 points for an egg or 1 pts for 1/2 cup of egg beaters. 1 pt for some grated FF cheese. Another point or two if you want to add some additional protein, like Canadian bacon or veggie faux sausage. Add some 0 point salsa, wrap it all up in a 1 or 2 point tortilla and you've got a breakfast burrito for less than half or even a third of the points. Granted, there is a lot to be said for the convenience of just ordering something and being on your way. But I am just amazed that relatively few restaurants, let alone fast food joints, have caught on that there is a good portion of the public looking for healthier alternatives. Alternatives other than the ubiquitous dry grilled chicken sandwiches and the overpriced 'premier' salads carried by most FF places, that is. I wonder how many people nationwide are doing WW? That alone is a HUGE marketing niche.
Guest guest
Some do have WW friendly foods. You can recognize them but the pumped up outrageous prices! > Totally random thought here... but I was just crusing DWLZ and looking over > the restaurant point values. Guest guest
I do like Subway, though I haven't been to one in ages. Usually got the club or turkey sub loaded with veggies... or one of the above made into a salad, though our local Subway upcharges $1 to do this. Speaking of BK, this site has been floating around the net for months but I still get a kick out of it: http://www.subservientchicken.com As a web developer, I find this fascinating from a programming standpoint. (And having an offbeat sense of humor doesn't hurt!) Re: fast food I stick with bread-less items. Mc's has nutritional information on their website and BK and Chik-fil-a are in the Dining Out Guide. I stick with those mainly. Subway is good too, but watch the points. wrote:Some do have WW friendly foods. You can recognize them but the pumped up outrageous prices! Guest guest
I do eat fast food once a week or so. Usually it's taco bell and I get it fresco style (no cheese, no sour cream, and they put on a fresh salsa instead) or I get something like a whopper jr and eat about 2/3 of it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Visit my website: http://www.crazystamper.com Shop for tupperware: http://my.tupperware.com/galew Design team member for http://www.susansscrapbookshack2.com Want $25 for free? Guest guest
I agree that it's do-able to lose weight and eat fast food. You just really have to know what you are eating before you eat it. Like Taco Bell & Taco Bueno have vastly different points counts for nearly the same things. Same thing with FF salads - some are a pretty good points bargain, but some are just outrageous for a salad! I try to figure out the points & what I am getting before I ever get to the drive-thru. That way, I'm not tempted by the menu - I don't even have to look at it! > I do eat fast food once a week or so. Guest guest
I just have a few favorites at the places I go to. Generally we stick with Subway (Club, Sweet Onion Teriyaki, or grilled chicken breast salad), s (two side salads and a small chili for 4.5 points), and every now and again a vanilla cone from Mcs (3 pts). Other than that, I'm to the point where I'd rather eat " regular " food. I do make my own " McMuffin " with egg beaters, laughing cow, and 2 pt English muffins and it tastes way better than the real thing. I spice it up with chili powder in the egg mixture along with a little Mrs. Dash.
Guest guest
, Tory gave you great advice, but also I have found that I can and do eat at fast-food places. Just not as often as I used to. But like Tory said, if you get the information BEFORE you enter the food place, you'll be prepared to make good choices. Just today I " had " to eat at Mc's with the kids because we didn't have time to go home in between our activities. Knowing my choices there I had a terrific lunch of a Chicken McGrill (grilled chicken breast on whole wheat bun with lettuce tomato and BBQ sauce) for 7 points and a snack-size yogurt parfait minus the granola for 3. I was FULL and it was delicious. Just about every fast-food restaurant has SOMEthing on the menu that's affordable! I love to eat out, don't you??
