Guest guest
The IR I spoke with said that women with multiple fibroids were especially appropriate for the UAE procedure since it would help preserve the organ. He also mentioned that he had embolized a fibroid the size of a cantalope with good results (shrunk by half), which the patient some time later had removed via myomectomy in a " bloodless surgery " . I have also heard that the more fibroids being removed the greater your risk of needing a transfusion. Are you talking with an IR directly? If not press your doctor for a referral, you need to talk to an expert about this. Ann I did ask him about fibroid embolization and he said to me > because I have multiple fibroids and they are quite large that it could not be > done. Guest guest
Hello, I am not overweight, kind of skinny except for my bloated stomach. My back pains got worse, no matter what I did. I don't think that weight makes any difference on discomfort level. I had heard that overweight women are probably less likely to know they have fibroids, but I don't know if this is true and what it is based on. I have also heard that some IR's will not do a ufe on someone who is excessively large. Regards, Jeanne > Hello...I had an endometrial ablation in July to alleviate heavy bleeding. Guest guest
I have a question tc....why did you have an ablation first? Why didn't your doctor remove your fibroids first and then monitor for bleeding after a myo or embolization? Guest guest
Hi Diane, The dr. did an ablation instead of removing the fibroids because of other existing medical problems causing me to be at high risk. It was felt that it was the conservative approach to take at the time. I had open heart surgery and have high blood pressure. I was also very anemic at the time and the fear of further blood loss was going to complicate matters more. He also said to me that embolization was out of the question because of the size of the fibroids and the fact there are multiple ones. I do have the name of a dr. to do an embolization but will only do it if the gyn recommends it. I need to look further into other dr.'s who would take my case. I am exploring all my options before any consideration of a Hyst. Do you know of any dr.s in the NY area? TC
Guest guest
Thank you Ann.....I intend to keep researching until I am satisfied that I am not a candidate for an ufe...
Guest guest
I'm no doctor - blah, blah -, but check out whether a surgeon particularly skilled in myomectomies could and would provide/be happy with that option for you. I guess you'd have to present all the details for them to make an assessment. Ask them about the risks in your particular case. I noticed some gynaecologist's web sites had emailing facilities, which might be a thought. Dieting tip? I read one about using stock instead of oil, for cooking stir fries. Guest guest
Dear TC, I wish I knew of a doctor in the NY area. I am from NJ originally and now am in Fl. I know some women on this list have talked about a Dr. West. You can look him up at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids. I came across one post #40945 that had his address and phone number. I am sure there are other doctors in that area that are very good (I thought about going back for my fibroids) and the LOL can come up with a few names for you. Have you dealt with an R(eproductive) E(ndocrinologist)? Do you have your anemia under control? It sounds like you have some health issues that can make things frustrating. But don't give up..... I know you will get the help and advice you need from the LOL and I wish you the best in finding a doctor that will work with you situation. Good Luck, Diane --- tchcntr@... wrote: > Hi Diane, > The dr. did an ablation instead of removing the > fibroids because of > other existing medical problems causing me to be at > high risk. Guest guest
Thanks Diane, Yes , the anemia is under control.. The endometrial ablation took care of that. Now, the problem is pain........
