Guest guest
I'm fairly new to his. When I started out a month ago, my nutritionist put me on the mediterrean (sp?) diet, with little results. The nutritionist was really expensive, so I went out and purchased Dr. Bernstein's book and decided to give it a try. Well, within 2 weeks my BG's are down from 160-190 average to 100-120 average-- so needless to say, I am impressed. I have heard the drawback is people can't sustain the low carb lifestyle. The numbers however are very motivating. (I only take 500 Metaformin in the am). It is amazing how quickly my body reacts to carbs,(in a bad way) even the smallest amount. Has anyone followed his plan and stuck with it? The only thing I'm missing is fruit, and perhaps I can add some back in (small portions). I just didn't want to give up all fruits. If you test when you eat fruits before and after you can eventually figure out which ones you can handle. That's what I did. I cannot eat bananas or pineapple even in small amounts. Every so often I retry them but doesn't work. I found out I can eat apples if I eat a half of one. Some things to me are worth the nutrition and if in smaller amounts they work for me. I could never eat raisins before but can now after about a year of avoiding them. I just eliminated fast foods, packaged or processed foods, all sugars and sweeteners, potatoes, rice, and pasta. Basically then the rest is proteins, nuts, seeds, veggies and fruits, diary. There are some diary products I don't like because of sugar that is I find I can't eat yogurts with sweeteners. I guess I should say I take what I like from various plans and use what fits me. You could probably customize what works and add in what you feel would work for you. You just have to experiment with it. I never could follow one plan exactly. I like to try and personalize it. But the reason what you are doing works is because you got rid of things that make you highly likely to have highs. Keep a food diary and you will soon learn which ones cause problems. It's just a matter of time and experimenting. Don't feel you have to follow that plan exactly or nothing works.
Guest guest
- I am blown away how low > my numbers are, and they just keep getting lower (!). It tells me how > sensitive my body is to carbs. I have been keeping a food diary since > the beginning and yes, it helps a great deal. Good for you! I actually love keeping track of the foods now because in the beginning although it seemed as if a lot of work, it now gives me control I want. I haven't been losing > or gaining weight, which is my next goal (losing weight, that is.) You're doing good. One step at a time. I'm sure you will get to the next goal. Keep up the good work here. > The protein seems to be rather high in fat. > > Mimi > Yeah Mimi, That's where I go more towards South Beach Diet. They emphasize the healthy type fats. I don't even do very well with ground beef any more. I don't like the bacon and saturated type fats. I have been working on this for almost a year and it keeps getting better. I keep fine tuning my diet and ma getting quite comfy now with what I know I like best and what works.
