Guest guest
Jen, I'm glad you are smart enough to not follow that endo's advice, and realize that with mild symptoms and the possibility of it being post-partum thyroiditis, it may resolve quite quickly once you stop nursing. This happened to a friend of mine recently. I am still amazed (should I be? I guess not, it's endemic!) that endo's are so quick to want to do RAI on just about everyone. Hand you a lifetime of potential problems, and you with 6 little ones to care for! Can you share lab results (with reference ranges) here? There's not much more than general advice we can give you, without some numbers to refer to. Welcome, I'm sure you'll get friendly advice galore here. Guest guest
is it possible to have something like postpartum > thyroiditis even though I had this while I was pregnant? Hi Jen. I was 30 when my 6th was born. You've been riding an intense hormonal roller coaster so I would say (not basing this on anything scientific) that anything's possible. I would ask your dr. to treat this as post partum thyroiditis for now, which usually involves no treatment, just monitoring. I'm sure that someone here will chime in with what the appropriate tests are and how often they should be administered. Needless to say RAI is an especially difficult option in your case since it would involve staying away from your children for a significant period of time. I would use this time to try to find a new endo in case it does develop into full blown Graves. If you can psyche yourself up for an uphill battle, know that it is possible, though unpleasant, to work with an antagonisitc endo. If it does become GD, consider weaning your baby earlier. There is strong anecdotal evidence that weaning, and letting your body achieve some sort of hormonal stasis, are strong factors in achieving remission for women whose reproductive hormones have had such a workout (and it's not necessary to have 6, or in my case 8 for this to happen). Guest guest
Dear Jen, When I went through something similar with thyroid and nursing I talked to a nursing specialist after I talked to the Dr. She ran through the drug list that the Dr. gave me and pointed out which ones would hurt the baby. If you don't have a nursing specialist in your area try Le Leche and see it they have resources. regards Betty

Guest guest
Dorothy, Thank Providence you finally wrote, I was going to send out the Mounties. Missed you a lot these last few weeks. Glad Tyler is involved in sport, and yes, it sounds like his meds need adjusting again. Did you get an official diagnosis on him, yet? My Randy finally has a real diagnosis, he has an organic mood disorder from the stroke at birth, complicated by ADHD. A friend of mine's son just got a dx, and he has something called defiance disorder, or something like that, with ADHD, also. My Randy is now taking Adderral time release, Prozac, and Risperdol. The Risperdol has made all the difference in the world for him, and for me. We have about one bad day a week, now, compared to six bad days a week before the medication. This is progress. Also, he is able to take the therapy in with meds, where as without them it was a waste of time and effort. You take care, honey, and keep in touch as often as you can. Loving hugs, MM

Guest guest
What Bruce says.I've been on CPAP for sleep apnea for over seven yearsand presently use the nasal prongs, which are verycomfortable. Be aware that now that I am on O2 I do need the O2 at night, and here's a bleed-in device they added to my tubing.Interesting pearl I learned along the way: All peoplewith sleep apnea snore, but not all people who snore havesleep apnea.jon-- Two wrongs don't make a right, but two 's make an airplane. Guest guest
, I had sleep apnea long before I was diagnosed with any of the lung diseases that have come along. I can tell you that I went from wanting to sleep up to 22 hours a day and not being able to drive without having to pull over to take a nap every 15-20 minutes, to going back to sleeping 8-9 hours a night and feeling refreshed with my c-pap. I call mine Snorkey and it has become my security blanket. Before I knew I had PH, COPD and PF, when I was feeling tired and short of breath, I would go to bed with Snorky until I was feeling better. Before I went to the sleep lab, my son in law would sometimes find me asleep across my bed when he brought my 6 week old grandson over at 2 in the afternoon. One time I fell asleep at the wheel of my car and rolled it. Thank God I wasn't hurt and there were no other cars on the road. My daughter came over to be with me that night. I woke up to her propped up on her elbow looking at me. She said no offense Mom but I have to get up and go to work, upon which she headed off to another room to sleep. I have a little insert tube that goes between the C-pap mask and hose with an attachment for my oxygen tube. My biggest problem with it is being too tired to clean it daily. usually did it for me. I have three sets for it now, when I am too tired to clean it, I just grab a clean set. With your boys, I would be especially careful when driving because I am sure with all of their activities you do a lot of running around everyday. My husband didn't mind the C-pap because I didn't kick him or jerk awake as much. He took his hearing aids off at night so the noise didn't bother him either. I find it sounds like the white noise that cancels out other sounds. Make sure they give you the instructional CD and you take the time to adjust the mask properly. I have not missed a single night of sleeping with it since I brought it home and for me it was no big deal adjusting to it after the mask was fitted correctly. Hope you get more rest now!
