Dogs are affected by many of the same things we are, not necessarily at different rates. They do have shorter life spans, so long-developing things may not have a chance to appear. However, I knew a dog who recently DIED of thyroid cancer. I have no idea how she got it in the first place -- probably the same way most of us did, i.e. " who knows? " -- but she was only about 11, and as a beagle should have had a few more good years in her, the thyca hardly seemed to bother her until near the end (when it became really bad, she was euthanized). I would not have risked being too close to my dog after my RAI (if she'd still been with us by then, she had only recenltly died). But she was so old that I could have resumed the petting after a couple of days, as long as I kept my bare hands off her tennis balls (she may not have done much running around, but she did still like to mouth them!), and didn't let her sleep on my bed. She wasn't that much of a cuddler anyway (mostly). bj

Consider looking for another hospital where the staff think before they talk! If this were true then all the radiobiology research (the origins of RAI, EBR etc etc) would all be invalid. Here I thought we were pretty exotic here with three anoles and two fire-belly toads and two cats. You've got me beat! Jill

The only one's that I even know of, are my little brothers best friend had one years ago, and our old police chief use to have one named ! Both are long gone along with Happy and ! They are such gorgeous dogs and would not mind having one if they did not need so much exercise!! LOL Always Hi Guys, I know that a lot of us on the list have pets. They mean so much to us and it is so hard when they pass. Has anyone ever heard of the "Rainbow Bridge"? It is a beautiful poem that helped me cope when my beloved cat Bear Bear died in 2001. A little later when my fingers are more nimble I will post it. What I did was to print it out on pretty paper in a nice font. I framed it and read it often. It is very beautiful. I will send it a little later. Take care all, Love Jai
