WELCOME! You'll like it here.

Lenore

Hi Everyone

Hi there, everyone...

I just came across your group, and thought it " fit " in many ways, so

I wanted to introduce myself.

My name is , I am a 34yr old married woman,an RN, no kids, who

had a VBG on May 6/03. I have lost 38 lb in 6 weeks and feel great

about it so far...

My fertility issues, like I am sure many of yours go way back. I have

had PCOD for about half my life, and know exactly how it relates to

weight and vice versa. My hubby and I have been married for almost

six yrs, and three yrs ago decided to undergo fertility

assessment/treatment after Clomid given by my OBGYN in the max doses

did not work. So, went to the fertility center and was asked to do

the max Clomid dose x 10days instead of the normal 5. If after two

months this wasn't successful, we would perhaps do a laparoscopy and

ovarian drilling, and discuss the options. At that point I was still

morbidly obese...

Make a long story short, I did the one month, my ovaries produced

follicles but they were never large enough to inject with Profasi to

release them. Unfortunately, at the same time (and of course, we all

know how mentally balanced Clomid makes you feel), I was dealing with

stress at work and post traumatic stress disorder related to

unresolved sexual abuse issues. I was hospitalized several times

until it was safe to be at home. Looking back, it is a blessing in

most ways that I didn't get preg then.

Since then, I have reclaimed my life in many many ways. I have been a

pediatric nurse (hence my love of children) for over ten yrs and made

a very positive career change last Sept. I realized my heart couldn't

stand to see any more of my chronically ill pts that became family to

me die. (Cystic fibrosis unit)....I now work on a telephone advice

line that is just starting in our province, and absolutely LOVE

it..It is like working in an emerg with a blindfold! Exciting and

never the same call twice...Physically and emotionally, the surgery

is helping me regain my health by leaps and bounds. I had lost weight

before (90lb at TOPS 10yrs ago) but was never able to keep it off

because I hadn't dealt with the abuse and other issues. Weight was

always a protective armour I wore. Well, feels great not to need it

anymore for protection, and the self esteem boost I have gotten so

far even has been well worth the surgery...

As an " added bonus " , my surgeon tells me that a woman's fertility

index goes way up the minute she has surgery. Well, miracle to

behold, two weeks to the day post op, I got my first period without

taking Progesterone in TWO YRS...I am really really hoping this

wasn't just a fluke, because I should be having it any time now and

have all the " signs " that I never trusted in myself before (PMS

symptoms) cuz they never panned out before...

Its funny that after this many yrs together as a couple with

fertility probs that we now have to use " protection " , but I am taking

the Dr very seriously as he has had pts get preg way too early post

op and have problems. I just about DIED going to the pharmacy counter

to purchase condoms ( " for HER pleasure " ,it said on the box..lol)

where a 90yr old granny rang me in!

Anyway, I should stop babbling...I am just so looking forward to this

new chapter in my life, and wanted to see if anyone out there has had

similar stories? And successes getting pregnant in your mid thirties

post WLS having gone through PCOD...

Thanks for listening and I can't wait to get to know you all...

All the best,

Children are a blessing, and a gift from the Lord. -Psalm 127:3

Hi ,

I first wanted to say welcome to the group! Lenore was right, you

will love it here. There are many of us, including myself, that

have dealt with infertility issues related to morbid obesity. I

know exactly what you mean with the periods. I would go 5-6 months

without having a period until they finally put me on birth control

to regulate my periods. Prior to that, I could not get pregnant.

After WLS, my periods were very regular and that is why, when I was

a couple of days late, I knew I was pregnant.

One of the last things the dietician told me before leaving the

hospital have WLS is to use protection to avoid getting pregnant.

Well needless to say, we have only been using the withdrawel method

and 8 months post op I ended up pregnant (which I am thoroughly

thrilled about). Though many of us here got pregnant before we

should have, either accidentally or on purpose, I would recommend

waiting at least a year before trying to conceive or until you are

at goal or near goal weight (You didn't mention how much you need to

lose).

I'm sorry that you have had to deal with the sexual abuse issues. I

too was sexually abused by my real father, but I have not had any

ill effects from that to the extreme that you have. Everything

happens for a reason, good or bad, and everything that does happen

makes us who we are today. You took charge of your life and

overcame your horrible ordeal. You seem to be a very confident

woman and know what you want and need now. Good luck when it comes

time for you and hubby to conceive your first, and again, welcome to

the group.

Welcome!

I had the same issues as you. PCOD most of my adult life. Really long and

painful periods, 10 years with my husband and never even so much as a

pregnancy scare!! I had my surgery 5/1/02, lost 106 lbs. I still have 70

to go. On mother's day I took a pregnancy test and it was positive! I

don't think I really believed it until I saw the baby on the sonogram. The

surgery gave me a new life and a chance to have a child. Oh and I'm also

35. Just give it time. Your whole life will change.

Good Luck!

Congrats ! My OB told me after the birth of Christian 8 months

ago(repeat c-section) that I also have a very thin uterus and it

probably wouldn't have withstood the rigors of labor. I hadn't

wanted to labor anyway after 20+ hours with PITOCIN (firstborn) and

STILL only getting dilated to 2; so planned CS was the way for

me!!!!!!! lol

Congrats again!!

Athena, You need to become more assertive at being in charge of your own case, missy. Now, first

thing you do is call the PCP and insist on seeing her/him, and insist on getting something for pain that

works well enough to let you sleep at night. When you get enough sleep you are better able to cope

with pain during the day, and have more energy to get things done. I am speaking with the voice of

experience, here. Also, if your PCP thinks you are "faking it", you need to get serious with this person and tell them off. Find a new PCP, and get on with your life. That is just plain ridiculous.

The Rheumy needs to be made FULLY aware of how much pain you are having, and to give you meds

which alleviate it NOW. Be assertive, insist on being treated as a person, not a file number. Noone

deserves to be in pain all the time just because it is inconvenient for the docs. Keep us posted on

what happens. Loving hugs, MM

Yep, what Mike is saying is right hon, if your DR is not taking your pain seriously, get a new one pronto!

Hi Everyone, I know it has been a very long time since I have been online but things have been kind of hairy down here and between trying to sleep my life away in a coma and surgery I have been really busy with a heavy dose of steroids and methotrexate but I am home now and we are trying to decide on a new shunt and whether to put it back in or whether we are going to go througrh a lenghthy surgery for excess air in my ventricles, vision is not real good since it is already dark and my father in law is really ill. Please pray for my husband's family because even though he is older and been fighting cancer we all know how hard it is to lose a parent or someone you love. Take care and will chat at you tomorrow. See two doctors tomorrow so should be fun since have spent the last month it seems running back and forth and being admitted or seeing doctors. Fun, Fun.

Hi Everyone

I have been invited to eat lunch (tomorrow at 11:30 am EST) with a newly diagnosed IPF patient. This lady is 83 years old and she is scared. Her husband passed away last year I think. He was a physician. I have all the materials that I can give to her. She has not even told her children, but I don't really know her children at all because they are older than I am. Prayers are needed. She is also going to call Dr. at Emory. The topic of the discussion ( if I choose it) will be: How to Live with IPF. She was diagnosed by CT-scan.

I have been off the computer for a couple of weeks. My old computer hit the dust, I lost mostall the posts. I found out I broke my back and that is why I am having pain in my hip. Gosh Joyce, When does it all end...what happened to your back and how did you find out? Ha! I did that falling off a horse when I was a kid, can you believe mine got better when I gained weight ? The more weight I lose the worse the sciatic pain, I think mine is stress as well as losing more padding.

Did you do anything nice for yourself for valentines day? My ex, , gave me a gift of not exposing me to another bug. We ate out Friday and I am experiencing the effects of another version of the Rhino virus. This time ears, neck glands, headache and a sore back. We were going to make a nice weekend of it. His sister was married yesterday and he didn't even feel like attending. This is why he has his own apartment, I can't risk the exposure. We did on line Smilebox cards for a week. I really would have enjoyed a nice drive though. Margaret

I fell and after 6 weeks of constant pain I could no longer say I had pulled a muscle so went to the doc and she told me and had me get

Xrays. I have a compression fracture of some vertebrae. Apparently they can put cement in the vertebrae and with it pain killer but haven't talked to her yet about that. She said I can do whatever I can tolorate but I can't do much without Vicodin and I hate vicodin! I am trying to decide if I will take my land aerobics class or not. I will continure with Aquafit but getting in and out of the pool hurts terribly' This is a bummer! A real bummer! I didn't need this to happen,. well, they say bad things happen in 3's...perhaps this will end it?Joyce Rudy

Joyce,

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. Thankfully you went to the doctor. Is

there another pain medication they could give you that would help

relieve the pain without depression being a side effect. I hope you get

-I don't know about another ain killer and will ask but I guess it takes about 6 months for it to heal and then you have some pain but not as much. I feel like a fool having slipped and fallen! Things weren't bad enough! nBut, I will try to be more cheerful...it's just hard to be so ...Joyce Rudy AZ IPF 11-08

Re: Hi everyone

Joyce, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. Thankfully you went to the doctor. Is there another pain medication they could give you that would help relieve the pain without depression being a side effect. I hope you get to feeling better!!! 33 FLIPF dx 1/06>> I have been off the computer for a couple of weeks. My old computer hit the dust, I lost mostall the posts. Joyce, I understand how depressing pain can be. Bone pain is the

worst there is! Last March I started taking Cymbalta for my

depression. It's an antidepressant also used for pain with

fibromyalga & debetic nueropathy patients. I was so happy because

after a month or so on it I had a tremendous refief of the pains I

had been experiencing for soooo long. Before that I didn't realize

how much pain I was truely in until some of the pain was gone.

I've noticed lately I'm starting to get back in a depressive funk and

having more and more pain. I'm suppose to see my Internist next week.

I will be asking to have my Cymbalta increased. I've started

journaling again. I should probably start using my self hypnotism cd

again that I got from my psyciatrist. It used to help me avoid or

deal with anxiety attacks. If you like I'll be glad to send you a

copy.

Don't let yourself get too down in the dumps. You have people who

care about you!
