what choices you have either of getting out of the house while it is

degassed.

Suzi...sure wish there would be something I could do for you... is what I CAN do.

It's so hard when we hit some of these dips...and you have so much right now to deal with.

I hope your mom will soon be home. That will be easier, not going to the hospital for visits....

BTW... I see you post with both Aunt Suz and Suzi?? Which do you prefer?

Air Family, I think I am very sick. 3 hours sleep, had paint andcarpeting done last 3 days. Am having a LOT of trouble breathing, haveO2 up to 4. Usually only O2 for exercise, 2 ltr. Paint and Carpeting would both cause potential problems. Do you have

an oximeter?

***Yes. Got one one Amazon, the best $65 I ever spent. It's spot on.

Also, this is a place an incentive spirometer would tell a lot.

***Is that one of those thingies you blow into and it tells you how

much air you're expelling? I teenk I got one of those around somewhere...

You may need considerable outgassing done in your home from both the

paint and the carpet, perhaps even more the carpet than paint.

***Will Google that next. Actually told the carpet guy about my Mom's

and my breathing problems, he was nice enough to order the carpeting,

open it up in his warehouse to air it out for a week, then pre-cut the

room sized pieces.

This would include open windows, extra vacuuming, all not done by you

and preferably you not there or outdoors or something.

***I called my Big Brother for help, he came and picked me and the dog

up. We are outta there for tonight and maybe longer. I do have a

professional cleaning service on order for Monday. Thanks for info

You're doing the best thing I think...open windows as much as possible

during the day and then spend time at your brother's for a day or two.

Letting the carpet air out as your installer did helps some. It's

amazing how sensitive we can be sometimes and some things are so

difficult to predict and to avoid. Any fans you can run with the windows

open are good too. Then I don't know if you're prone to allergic

reactions or not and this might be one. However, if I had to be in a

house just painted or carpeted, I would take some Benedryl. However,

that is just me and my allergies and may not be at all right for you.

Suzi, I am sure there us a company in your city that rents HEPA filter machines. They need to run for a few days, depending on the air quality problem. My sister-in-law had a really bad problem with mold and such after a hurricane. My hubby completely gutted her house to the 2X4's and rebuilt it. But had to hun hepa filters for almost a week before he could re-build. Worth checking into. I don't know if you were aware that carpeting has some formaldehyde in it which is very toxic. Check that out also. Suzi, My pulmonologist told me to be sure to get the hypoallergenic carpeting when I put in new carpeting. He also recommends air purifiers used in the entire house at all times. If you do purchase the hepa air purifiers, be sure to get the kind with permanent rod filters that only require wiping off to clean and have infrared light to kill what ever might be left behind. Replacement filters often cost as much to replace as the machines themselves. These hepa filters are excellent for removing dust, pollen, mold, mildew and pet dander that also cause us to have more infections. They get rid of cooking odors and leave the air smelling really fresh and clean.
