Grasses and Gluten

The book Dangerous Grains does touch on the subject of some grasses

being genetically linked to wheat (as in same family or species or

something). I was looking for that information elsewhere, but have

yet to google the right combo of words. I've checked the book out

again to have another look and to write it down.

I'm severely allergic to grass, asthmatic symptoms, eyes, combined

with Ragweed and I'm a mess. I'm not a DQ2 or 8 carrier, nor am I

Celiac -- it's my 2nd son who's a Celiac and my dh the DQ2 carrier.

I don't doubt that a person who ingest certain grasses could have the

same reaction as if they had eaten gluten. It also may not

necessarily be the grass, but rather cross winds bringing over gluten

matter from a wheat field depending on where you live...

I kept bunnies for years and fed them both alfalfa hay and timothy

hay with no reaction whatsoever. I do not have hay fever, although

my mother (so far not diagnosed celiac) does. Interesting. I would

also suspect some kind of contamination issue rather than the

grasses themselves.
