Guest guest
Pink I've done that pretty much. I have one grouping of stuff still to go through. One of us does have to sell a washer and dryer. I learned long ago how to get rid of stuff. I think the move to New York years ago did it to me. At the cost of apartments in Manhattan and the size, you don't take anything you don't absolutely have to have. It's a great cure of hoarders. > > > > > > > > > > Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!! Guest guest
Caro, I noticed you were on Facebook. My 75 year-old uncle got me started, and now I'm having a blast. I've connected with cousins, old classmates and co-workers. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with so many stressful things at once. I have a good friend that is dealing with a similar situation with her son. I know that weighs on you so heavily, because he is your baby. The boot camp will hopefully be the best thing for him. Also, that was so terrible about your uncle. I hope your aunt has a good support system. I have a 12 year-old Chihuahua. If we don't put him out immediately after he eats or sleeps, we will have to clean up a puddle. I only have carpet in my bedrooms, so it is not too bad on tile floors. When we're gone, he is in a bathroom with newspaper down. It is such a pain!! We also have a 15 year-old Sheltie who coughs and sneezes all the time. I will be happy for the day I don't have an old dog to take care of, but I do love them. Your little dog will hopefully be trainable. Lastly, I hope the results of your echocardiogram come back with no PH! That is a real scary thing to deal with. I worry about it as well, as it many times is connected with Sjogren's and Raynaud's, as well as PF, of course. I'll be looking for your results. Take care!! Elisa (LIP, Sjogren's, Raynaud's Apr. Are you exchanging letters and are you any closer to knowing anything about when you can visit him? You have really been busy, Happy Birthday. I can only dream of 70 degree days... wish I could transport down for the day! I am sorry to hear about your uncle. Will your aunt be living alone now? does she have family near by? Congratulations on Gizzy! I had to have one when I was a kid because my scout leader had one. She was so beautiful, fawn colored with her big brown eyes. I bought her a little ratan bed and all of the puppy acessories.. .She cried and didn't want to sleep alone in her bed. I named her Misty but when we never could potty train her, my mom renamed her Little Poopsy. I think the new way to train them is to put them in one of the wire kennels when they are not with you and immediately after taking them out, take them out potty. Afrer they have gone, reward them by playing with them and feeding them. The kennel is good for when you are working, away from home and sleeping until they are trained. It is nice to have a puppy friend. Guest guest
/are you speaking of dog training pads? I have 5 adult dogs that go in thehouse instead of outdoors when it ghets below freezing and or it is raining orsnowing. I tried the pads and they ignored them! Well, until they were left down for a few days so they ripped them up. would love it if I couldget them to use pee pads. What is wrong with mhy dogs? Joyce Rudy AZ IPF 11-08 Re: Happy Saturday everyone!! Hi Caro! We are having beautiful weather here in Georgia, too. I thought I would throw in "my two cents" about training dogs. Max is my dog and he was young (15 wks) when we got him. If you just take Gizzy out every so often, observe his behavoir, and you will figure him out. Example: Max goes out, comes in and plays, eats, and then goes back out and then comes back in and sleeps. When he awakens, he goes back out. Wants to eat, etc. All he thiniks about is eating, sleeping, and belly rubs! LOL! What a life! We never used the training pads. Toodles! Guest guest
Joyce, reread the last four words you wrote below. Your five beloved furry children are 'killing' you. Living in Alaska, our dogs have to go out rain, snow and no matter how cold it gets. I remember your older long haired dog and you mentioned having greyhounds. They don't need to be out very long to take care of their business. I can imagine it being overwhelming to clean up after them going in the house, not to mention unsanitary and the odor. I have had greyhounds and long haired dogs. I would start by pushing them all out at the same time four or five times a day until everyone had gone. Then letting them back in with the reward of fresh food and water or a treat or play time. Put a rain coat and booties on the old dog so it won't get cold or stiff. You can put booties and sweaters on the greyhounds. When It is time to let them back in the house, meet them at the door and wipe them down and clean their feet with a towel.. All this work is why I am a cat person but I have truly loved the family dogs growing up and the ones my daughter had. They were well trained though and would ask to go out when they needed to go and run right back to the door as soon as they were done. I really miss Tongas, our German Shepard; he was a once in a life time dog. Our guys didn't need rewards, they just wanted to go, and they always had food and water available. I slipped with wet feet on the kitchen floor one time and I know how it can hurt, I guess we were fortunate that we were not hurt worse. Guest guest
Peggy Which Joyce are you writing to? I did check out the pads on line. We use the 24x24, which is almost the same price as the on-line supplier. Last week i paid about $40. for 150 24x24 pads at Pet Smart. Do you have to pay tax if it's from a medical supplier? But every state is different. Rocky is 10 pounds and he is used to that size. At this time, i do not want to upset the "apple cart." Guest guest
When my dogs were a few months old, I put a little bell near the back door, low enough for my dogs to "tinkle" it if they want to go out. Then, for a while, every time I took them out I tinkled the bell, then let 'em out. After a while they got the idea. Of course, EVERY time they ring the bell, (at first) you have to let 'em out so they learn - but they will! Guest guest
Hey Barbara wot a useful tip... I'll try it with the 'Slippa Sistas'.. they're just starting to be allowed to stay 'In' for extended periods.. usually they live out on my big wide/long verandah & front garden but I miss them when I'm inside doin' stuff! I'm tending to stay out there with them for too long 'cos they're so much fun ...Aussie dogs tend to be outside critters! Right now I'm trying to stay one step ahead of them with a front gate problem... I'd erected a second barrier so people could get into without the Sistas diving between legs & escaping but now they able to JUMP the barrier! Miss Spice escaped yesterday & raced straight scross the road! How to rasie the barrier & still enable visitors to get through is my current dilemma!! How to train visitors to clip the main gate shut before they open the second one....mmmmmmm! I'm working on it! Cheers, GIO > >> > Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!! Guest guest
- First of all, let me say how sorry I am that your beloved country is facing such horrendous trials. I pray that you and your family/friends remain safe, and that the dire consequences of the aftermath somehow are mitigated so that the suffering is as small as is possible. I just can't imagine. To lighter things - I have trained my two cairn terriers so that whenever someone arrives on the FRONT porch, they immediately run to the BACK door to be let out. Once they are out, they run around the back deck so they can see the visitors, and then bark insanely at them. They now think this is what they are supposed to do, and my visitors can get in the house without getting jumped on. When the dogs have calmed down a little, I let them in and of course, they start jumping on the visitors. Then, to distract the dogs, I fling tiny treats in different directions so that they run here and there, forgetting about the visitors entirely. The guests usually find all this amusing, and no one gets hurt. ;-) B Barbara McD IPF, Sept 08 Beautiful Western NC Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Guest guest
Thanks for your thoughts re Bush fires Barbara & for the extra good tips on doggies as well......your dogs would be very similar in nature to my Sistas... mine do the same excited barking n' jumping thing that is a new one for me to learn to deal with (I previously had a long-lived Dalmation/Lab cross & he was VERY calm & concentrated on wagging his powerful tail in response to visitors!) You've given me some good clues..... my Sistas are also having MAJOR sport with all the dogs that go past our front gate....they do a great impression of being a Rottweiler, Dobermann or Wild Hunting Dog.. all the worse if the passing dog IS one of the above! Somhow I don't think even TREATS would distreact them from that fun! Luckily at night they are quiet & accept sleeping out on a back verandah away from distraction in their own little kennels. We get Possums visiting at night in the front yard in the Fruiting Season & the dogs would go OFF they they were near that activity! The Possums merrily take a short vcut across our front verandah to get to the Rain Forest Trees in fruit along the side of the house! They often compete with the Fruit Bats... it can be a cacophony at times as they compete for the Dinner Table.... imagine adding 2 little dogs into the sideshow! Guest guest
Barbara great idea for pup training thanks Pink Joyce IPF 3/06 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: Re: Happy Saturday everyone!!To: Breathe-Support Date: Monday, February 16, 2009, 6:48 PM - First of all, let me say how sorry I am that your beloved country is facing such horrendous trials.
