Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!! It is 70 out here

today and is supposed to be tomorrow and I am absolutely loving it!!

Absolutey gorgeous sunny day! I have so tired of being cooped up

inside because of the cold!!

I have had another eventful week somewhat!! On Tuesday morning, my

cousin and my aunt came over to visit. My cousin and I have the same

birthday, so that day was our B-day so I gave her a card and she left

and came back with a card for me and some bubble bath. How nice! My

aunt brought some clothes over that she needed some alterations done

on. That afternoon I got a phone call from my cousin and her

stepfather (my aunt's husband... they have been married for 54

years). Anyhoo he a massive coronary while driving at age 73 and was

killed in a single car crash. Really tragic. My aunt is 75 and not

taking it well at all. The funeral was Friday so that was a tough

day to go through.

Last Sunday, I was coming back from the store, and there were 2 girls

on a Segway (? spell) with a little chihuaha running behing them. As

soon as I got even with them, they held up a sign no a sheet of

notebook paper that said " FREE DOG. " Needless to say, he is mine

now!! His name is Gizmo. I call him Gizzy. I just absolutely love

him! He is only about 6 months old and very playful. It was so nice

out today, I took him for a walk in the park and he really loved it.

After the funeral on Friday, I had to run by the pulmo office to get

my monthly B12 injection. I had lab work done 2 weeks ago and a 2-E

echocardiogram done a week and a half ago to rule out pulmonary

hypertension. The echo was not back yet but the lab work was. I had

5 liver tests that were elevated and my red blood cell count was

low. The nurse who gave me the shot showed it to me and I looked and

saw that my pulmo had signed off on it, so I am guessing he must not

think it is too bad or he would have called me. Anyway, I am going

to call back on Wednesday or Thursday and talk to his nurse to find

out if the echo is back and I will ask her about it then. I know he

told me that prednisone and Imuran can cause liver damage and that is

why he checks CBC and liver function tests every 3 months. Guess I

will try and not worry until I find out something on Wednesday.

I have been trying to keep up with the posts and I reply when I can

input. A lot of times the posts are regarding oxygen and since I am

not on oxygen yet, I don't really know what to say there, so usually

I just read those and keep going.

I know a lot of you guys have dogs, too. I am having a tough time

getting this one to use the puppy pads. He will even go an inch away

from it. I have tried everything. Any suggestions? I even bought

the scented puppy pads that are supposed to attract them to use them,

but it is not working. It worked for the first day and after that no

luck. I am not giving up, though. I hope he will get it sooner or

later. Thank God for my Dirt Devil spot scrubber and Febreeze!!

Caro...your little Gizzie sounds so sweet.

You probably don't know what the original owner did for potty training...or maybe they couldn't get Gizzy to potty train. lol. That's why you have him...her??? lol.

When I get a new pup I pretty much restrict them to a box or a room, or in my lap, or feeding. Protects the carpet that way, few accidents. Out of the box, outside and after feeding or playing. Doesn't take long and they seem to know.

Good luck.

Funny puppy pad worked one day and then not.... Oh boy, you can't beat Febreze...for any odor.

My sympathies over your uncle's tragic death. Your poor aunt.

Hope you are feeling "ok"...

Thanks Mama Sher!! I don't feel bad at all really. Just the usual getting tired it seems a lot easier these days. I had thought about putting Gizzy (him) in the kitchen in the corner maybe until he got more used to the place. I have too much back pain to drag that spot scrubber out 3 to 4 times a day. He was a nice surpise Birthday present, though!! CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

Don't assume he thinks its ok....talk to him about the liver enzymes.

Normally seeing elevated enzymes they would at least reduce the Imuran.

Just don't assume its ok with him without hearing directly from him why

he's comfortable with it.

Hi Caro, I have been wondering about you and your son. Are you exchanging letters and are you any closer to knowing anything about when you can visit him? You have really been busy, Happy Birthday. I can only dream of 70 degree days... wish I could transport down for the day! I am sorry to hear about your uncle. Will your aunt be living alone now? does she have family near by?

Congratulations on Gizzy! I had to have one when I was a kid because my scout leader had one. She was so beautiful, fawn colored with her big brown eyes. I bought her a little ratan bed and all of the puppy acessories...She cried and didn't want to sleep alone in her bed. I named her Misty but when we never could potty train her, my mom renamed her Little Poopsy. I think the new way to train them is to put them in one of the wire kennels when they are not with you and immediately after taking them out, take them out potty. Afrer they have gone, reward them by playing with them and feeding them. The kennel is good for when you are working, away from home and sleeping until they are trained. It is nice to have a puppy friend.

Hi Margaret!!

I actually got some good news on my son. On the first charge, he got probation with a 4 to 6 month boot camp program. The second charge is still pending. He hasn't been to court on that one yet. So far so good though on the first charge. It looks like he will be in jail for at least a year, though. I am hoping he will be a different man when he comes out. I say man, even though I always feel like he is still my baby, even at 22 years old. I found out Thursday that I can write him, so I have to get busy getting some stamps, etc., while I can.

I am really luvn this little dog!! He is laying beside my leg on the sofa now fast asleep. He looks so peaceful. I am going to try and take a pic of him and post it so everyone can see.

Hope you all have a good night. Thanks Margaret for the Happy Birthday wish!!

Thanks Bruce. I was kinda worried anyway, just cuz they weren't normal. They raised my Imuran to 150 mg a day back in the middle of the summer last year, but so far he has always said my blood work was okay. This was the only one that I actually saw with my own eyes.

I have another question -- I have had for the past 3 to 4 weeks maybe 10 times total orange colored stools. I googled it and it says if it is not food related, i.e., carrots, etc., (which it is not), then it could irritable bowel syndrome (I already know I have that), gallstones, a cyst, or cancer. I was just diagnosed with an ovarian mass about 2 weeks ago. Was wondering if they could be related? I wouldn't think so since ovary is not colon or rectal. Guess I need to ask them about that, too.

Hope you all have a great night!!CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

Yes, you need to ask about that too, immediately or before. And don't

let things go so long without asking. You just worry or suffer or incur

risk.

Thanks Bruce. You are the best. You always seem to be the information person here for the group for me. I had just been started on a Climara hormone patch by the gynecologist and I was wondering if that was causing it, but when I googled it, I couldn't find anything.CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

I bought her a little ratan bed and all of the puppy acessories.. .She cried and didn't want to sleep alone in her bed.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!! It is 70 out here today and is supposed to be tomorrow and I am absolutely loving it!!Absolutey gorgeous sunny day! I have so tired of being cooped up inside because of the cold!!I have had another eventful week somewhat!! On Tuesday morning, my cousin and my aunt came over to visit. My cousin and I have the same birthday, so that day was our B-day so I gave her a card and she left and came back with a card for me and some bubble bath. How nice! My aunt brought some clothes over that she needed some alterations done on. That afternoon I got a phone call from my cousin and her stepfather (my aunt's husband... they have been married for 54 years). Anyhoo he a massive coronary while driving at age 73 and was killed in a single car crash. Really tragic. My aunt is 75 and not taking it well at all. The funeral was Friday so that was a tough day

to go through. Last Sunday, I was coming back from the store, and there were 2 girls on a Segway (? spell) with a little chihuaha running behing them. As soon as I got even with them, they held up a sign no a sheet of notebook paper that said "FREE DOG." Needless to say, he is mine now!! His name is Gizmo. I call him Gizzy. I just absolutely love him! He is only about 6 months old and very playful. It was so nice out today, I took him for a walk in the park and he really loved it.After the funeral on Friday, I had to run by the pulmo office to get my monthly B12 injection. I had lab work done 2 weeks ago and a 2-E echocardiogram done a week and a half ago to rule out pulmonary hypertension. The echo was not back yet but the lab work was. I had 5 liver tests that were elevated and my red blood cell count was low. The nurse who gave me the shot showed it to me and I looked and saw that my

pulmo had signed off on it, so I am guessing he must not think it is too bad or he would have called me. Anyway, I am going to call back on Wednesday or Thursday and talk to his nurse to find out if the echo is back and I will ask her about it then. I know he told me that prednisone and Imuran can cause liver damage and that is why he checks CBC and liver function tests every 3 months. Congratulations on the puppy!!! How exciting!!!

My dog was about a year when i got him. But still needed training.

Put a piece of food in the spots that you don't want him urinating on. That's if there is something that he doesn't like.

A former co-worker put the food (one piece) on paper plates and the paper plates on aluminum foil around the perimeter of the rooms -- to train her cats re: not going on the new carpet.

Theoritically (spelling?) animals do not like when they get splashed, hence the hard surface.

I have milk bones in various places, because Rocky rarely eats them.

In the beginning I also used a cage for when no one was home or at night.

Then I put him on a leash while I slept. Theoretically, they are not supposed to go where they sleep.

Sorry to read about your health issues.

No moving boxes for me....but I'm going to have to find people and

supervise packing of hundreds of them. And then two moves. I hate those

days, not knowing if the moving crew for today is going to be good or

bad. We used one company five times in a row and they were good but then

last move had the crew they sent was horrible.

Hi Sher,

The only new med I have is the Climara hormone patch the gynecologist put me on. I googled that, too to try and find out if it caused orange colored stools but couldn't find anything. I go for colposcopy for the ovarian mass on upcoming Wednesday, so maybe can find out something then. WHEW!! So much to try and keep up with!!CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

Oh thanks Pink Joyce!! Another great idea!! I have found a couple of things he doesn't like to eat and I will definitely try that. He seems to have somehow thought my end table beside the sofa is the place to go underneath it for some reason. I will definitely go and get paper plates today!!!CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

I bought her a little ratan bed and all of the puppy acessories.. .She cried and didn't want to sleep alone in her bed.

Hi Caro!

We are having beautiful weather here in Georgia, too. I thought I would throw in "my two cents" about training dogs. Max is my dog and he was young (15 wks) when we got him. If you just take Gizzy out every so often, observe his behavoir, and you will figure him out. Example: Max goes out, comes in and plays, eats, and then goes back out and then comes back in and sleeps. When he awakens, he goes back out. Wants to eat, etc. All he thiniks about is eating, sleeping, and belly rubs! LOL! What a life! We never used the training pads.

Toodles!

CaroDon't assume he thinks its ok....talk to him about the liver enzymes.Normally seeing elevated enzymes they would at least reduce the Imuran.Just don't assume its ok with him without hearing directly from him whyhe's comfortable with it.>> Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!! Hi Jane,

I took your advice and other advice today. I took Gizzy for a walk in the park and he tinkled while we were out. He poo poo'd twice on the pad today!! Also, I had a salad yesterday and he just begged for some, though I knew he wouldn't eat it, so I gave in and gave him a mushroom and he just snubbed it off and walked away. So, today, I sliced a mushroom and put on some aluminum foil underneath the end table and so far every time he walks by, he just looks at it and walks away!! What a great day!!

Thanks again, all!!CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

Toodles!
