Teen dies after highway jump from SC ambulance

Years ago. Same thing happened to me. Suicidal patient duped us into

being all calm and then tried to jump out the back doors of an ambulance

doing about 50 mph. The driver quickly realized what was happening

and, with outstanding thinking, hit the brakes just in time and the

patient flew right back down on the stretcher whereupon he was

restrained.

As the guy who was taking care of the patient in that ambulance in Granbury;I

feel bad for everyone in this situation. The pt, pt's family, medics and their

family lose;Everyone loses! I especially feel bad for the medics that this

happened to and hope that they can come through this event somewhat intact. It

is horribly traumatizing and possibly career ending. In August of this year it

will have been 15 years since that evening and I still remember details of that

day.

If it comes down to the patient attacking me because they can not get

out...I do not want to keep them in...

Happened in a few weeks ago.....I've heard of at least 10 or so of

these throughout the years, I've had a few close calls with patients trying

to exit. I know a few manufacturers can spec out safety doors that don't

open unless the truck is in park, they also have an override button.
