Guest guest
New to site and was wandering if there was anyone out there who has had a hip resurface by Mont and if Blue Cross/blue sheild of land covers surgery. If not, any hints? Some doctors in land say I have AVN others say I just have bone on bone. Do you think I should see Dr. Mont for a resurface? Live close to Baltimore and am confused if I should get resurface or THR as the three doctors I have seen suggested. I am very active,(was) want to play lacrosse with three year old son, continue shiing and basically get back to where I was five months ago. Guest guest
You might try contacting: Valaicia Lemon Financial Coordinator vlemon@... " Valaicia oversees all insurance issues for Dr. Mont's patients. Her duties include obtaining pre-certification and billing. She discusses insurance coverage with patients. " And ask her if she has had patients who were successful with BC/BS and Dr. Mont. She is relatively new but may be able to share some history of experiences since she's been there. I talked to her last fall - she seemed very nice. Guest guest
If you live close to Balimore then definitely go see Dr. Mont. No harm in exploring your options. Even if your insurance won't cover the resurf they will almost certainly cover a consultation.
Guest guest
Steve: I was lucky to have had surgery by Dr Mont paid for by BS/BC of MD. However I know of a person whose request got rejected quite recently when this new assistant Valaicia used the term " resurfacing " (which is an investigational procedure; look at your policy for coverage) in the pre-authorization request. In the past " resurfacing " may not have been explicitly stated, maybe based partly on the fact that the surgery could not be guaranteed to result in a " resurf " until the actual operation (a large MoM THR being the alternative). So I don't know if this was a mistake or a policy change. This has been an issue lately at JRI (search the archived messsages for the last 2 wks). I suggest you first make an appointment with Dr Mont to find out about the surgery and if you are a good candidate etc. No auth. request will be submitted until a date has been scheduled for the surgery. Anyway, if you are going to ask her up front about her experiences with BS/BC approval be careful how to phrase your questions. If indeed there has been a policy change I am sure other to-be surfhippies would like to know. If you are not " in the market " till later this year then it is a moot point as FDA approval is expected to happen then. You may want to get in line quickly and reserve a date in that case. Good luck. Ed Mont RC+ Nov'03 > > New to site and was wandering if there was anyone out there who has > > had a hip resurface by Mont and if Blue Cross/blue sheild of > land > > covers surgery. Guest guest
Steve: I was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Mont on March 22nd, but learned from Valaicia on the 11th that CareFirst Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of MD would not cover the procedure. You may contact me offline for more information if you desire.
