If so, he can let them know if he's available on short notice as they all seem to get cancellations frequently. He would probably have to be on Coumadin to have his INR in the desired range ahead of time, however. Gordon

Guest guest
The reason he has to wait a year at the Ottawa Institute is because there are only 2 doctors doing the procedure and the other doctor has left to go to the United States. Yes, he will put his name down in case of cancellation. Have you had the procedure done yourself? He has been on Coumadin for some time now. > > > > My husband was just told that he is a good canditate for pulmonary > > vein ablation for his atrial fibrillations. Yes, he will put his name down in case of cancellation. Have you had the procedure done yourself? He has been on Coumadin for some time now. Yes, I had mine November 3 in Marin and it went fine. It takes a couple of months to find out how successful it was as there are supposed to be some runs while the heart is healing. I know Canadians who have gone to Bordeaux to the surgeons that poineered this procedure because of the wait in Canada. I believe the cost there is under $20,000 US including transportation and all expenses. Also, the touch up ablation if needed is included. I believe this is less than half the cost of the same thing in the US. If you husband can scrape up the money, I'd recommend that as he'd be getting the best treatment sooner.
