Guest guest
Hi Margaret I had my hip resurfaced by Mr Fordyce at the BUPA at Fordcombe near Tunbridge Wells, It was excellent until I had a problem caused by infection, he is now going to give me a large head metal on metal total hip, feel free to email me if you need any more help Cheers LBHR 04-09-01 Hip resurfacing in Kent? Has anyone had resurfacing done at the Chaucer in Canterbury please? Am getting lots of positive reports re Mr McMinn in Birmingham, but it would be a lot easier for me to have treatment in Canterbury. On the other hand, hopefully once its done its done, at least for a few years so is it worth going to Birminham for treatment? Any comments would be welcome Thanks
Guest guest
Hi Margaret I have recently had my second resurfacing by Mr Treacy in Birmingham. Please see my posting about a week ago about the experience. All the best with your decision. ine > Has anyone had resurfacing done at the Chaucer in Canterbury please? > Am getting lots of positive reports re Mr McMinn in Birmingham, but > it would be a lot easier for me to have treatment in Canterbury. Guest guest
Thanks for message. What exactly did you have done in the first place, I think I will be looking at the cup in the pelvis and what looks like a large rounded screwhead in the femur (excuse lowtech approach, the language is new to me). I am probably going to go for Mr Housden at the Chaucer because I will have to rely on husband to get me there and back and Birmingham will put a lot of strain on his working week! Guest guest
Hi Margaret I think what you are describing is the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing prosthesis, which is what I had fitted by Mr Fordyce in Fordcombe nr Tunbridge Wells, and which a lot of the other surface hippies on this group have had, or will be having. All the Resurfacing prosthesis brands are very similar in design and construction. Mr Fordyce will also carry out the surgery at the NHS Kent and Sussex (where he is doing my revision). Could be worth asking your GP for a referral if you don't have insurance. Good luck. LBHR 04/09/01 Hip resurfacing in Kent? Has anyone had resurfacing done at the Chaucer in Canterbury please? Guest guest
Thanks apparently Mr Housden at the Chaucer, Canterbury, does do NHS (either at Herne Bay or Ashford or somewhere. I don't have insurance, I have a husband ... I have a consultation Wed next week. Am not in pain really unless I overdo it, but overdoing it includes a dance class which I love and walking the dog for longer than about 50 mins. If I have done too much it takes about 10 days to clear again. I would think NHS wise I am low priority, but I would like to get on with my life My condition has just been picked up by a chiropracter X ray - the problem goes back 10 years or so, but GPs just told me it was weak ligaments and to swim or that there was no arthritis ... I am getting a lot of advice to go to Birmingham, but the distance complicates the whole process so much. Guest guest
Dear Margaret, This is not really my area of expertise, but I get the impression that one of the questions to ask when you have your consultation is how much experience doing resurfacings your OS has---eg is he fairly new to it, or has he done lots? You should also get a sense if you like him/ trust him from that consultation and perhaps what the team is like. That might help you to decide if you ask to go further afield to the best in the country in Birmingham with all the difficulties of travel. It sounds like maybe your case is fairly straight forward? Except for 's experience with wonderful aftercare when he went privately, I think that all of us who have had their ops on the NHS have been very pleased with them. Even low priority on the NHS, one doesn't necessarily have to wait too long these days. My sense is that many waiting lists really are getting shorter. Say that you would accept a cancellation if you feel you want to hurry things along. Eleanor Hip resurfacing in Kent? Has anyone had resurfacing done at the Chaucer in Canterbury please? Guest guest
I certainly hope it is straight forward - not much pain if I basically don't do anything apart from go to work and cook with a quick lurch round the block with the dog! eleanor moneyhill@...> wrote:Dear Margaret, This is not really my area of expertise, but I get the impression that one of the questions to ask when you have your consultation is how much experience doing resurfacings your OS has---eg is he fairly new to it, or has he done lots?
