Guest guest
No one on either side on my parents families had any history of ovarian or breast cancer. Some lung cancer and my dad died of melanoma. I found a lump in my breast just after having my second child at the age of 33. No testing was done at that time. the docs. thought it was just a fluke, enviormental related. Then, 14 years later hello cancer again. same breast. It can lay sleeping for years and them something triggers it. In my case I do believe it was the birth control pills the first time and then later it was the hrt and my own cocktail of hormones. i am her2 post. Anyway if it wasn't cancer it would probably be something else. Cancer has been a burden but at the same time has made me turn my life around for the better. For me I gotta have some positive with the bad. I am thankful there is some silver linning here. tt jbuzzard@... wrote: > > What I have noticed in reading medical histories of breast cancer > patients > for my job is how often there is no history of breast cancer in the > family > when a woman gets diagnosed with it. > Rhonda: I can take this a step further for you...My mother was diagnosed with BC at age 65. We had absolutely NO cancer anywhere in our family. This would have been weird enough (by itself). It got weirder - the medical " rule of thumb " for succeeding generations is age of diagnosis minus 10. So if my mother had been 45 when diagnosed, I would need to start my screenings before age 40 (at age 35). But she was 65, which would put me at 55 before it might be an issue...Let's just toss that medical theory right out the window, shall we?? : ) I am 40 and was diagnosed this year through my very first mammogram with a stage 1c. I'm guessing that meant the little booger had been in there for a bit. I could not feel it, nor did my doctor when I went for my " annual embarrassment " (PAP). The only reason I went for my mammogram was because I was 40 (and a responsible grownup : ) I also did a " risk assessment " (one of the Cancer Institutes or someplace) and had a 1% risk...what are the odds? Odds? Hmmm....think I'll go buy a lottery ticket now : ) - Jen --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.
