Yuly-

I was diagnosed with thyca when my daughter was 6 months old. (I also had a 3

year old and an 8 year old.) Had my TT 1/8/02. I put off having RAI until

July (with my endo and my ENT's approval) so I could nurse my daughter for a

full year. It is impractical to resume nursing after RAI as you cannot nurse

for

80 days. (I'm pretty sure that's the amount of time. Its been awhile since

I researched this.) By then the baby isn't used to nursing anymore, and

unless you've been a really diligent pumper, you won't have much of a milk

supply.

As thyca tends to be slow growing we decided it would be okay to delay

treatment several months so my baby could get the benefits of nursing a while

longer. I am very happy I made that decision.

Good luck to you. Feel free to email me privately if you want.

I read that they didnt like to give the RAI to a lactating mother because the

RAI would settle in the milk gands in the breast and could result in Breast

Cancer later?

I not sure what to do now. Stop so I can dry up to have the RAI or continue for

3-4 months and then stop and wait till I dry up which would be that I would be

having my RAI in Jan 2004. Just wondering if that came up?

I did read that though none of my doctors mentioned it. And I was not told

of any particular uptake in my breast tissue. I started weaning my daughter

slowly over a few months- cutting out a feeding at a time so both she and I

would get used to not nursing. I was never uncomfortable and we stopped

completely about a month before RAI- though she was only nursing a bedtime for a

while

before that. How old is your baby? I really wanted to nurse for a year, and,

figuring that thyca is slow growing, my decision was to wait to do RAI. I

have never regretted that choice.
