Guest guest
Glad to hear he's so happy! And, thanks for the antibiotic response. That would be really good news, though maybe they would still require some antibiotics due to 's heart repair that still has a very light leak around the valve. He has to take antibiotics for all dental work. Just glad to hear it's not normal protocol anymore -------------- Original message -------------- > Hi - thanks for your good words (and to everyone!). Guest guest
I have to take antibiotics for dental procedures as well - the antibiotics (and the after-effects) are worse than the dental! I'm not 100% sure that he wasn't on antibiotics during the procedure but for sure he didn't come home with them. He had a prescription for tylenol with codeine that he didn't tolerate all that well (stomach problems) so after the first day he dropped those. He's done well re: the pain, etc. I don't think Tom would have signed up for implant #2 the first two days after surgery but he's feeling pretty good now. He *really* didn't like having even a part of his head shaved (the infamous " Dr. haircut) and he has a black eye which caught all of us by surprise but evidently that's common. he's telling people he was in a street fight! Guest guest
Barbara, I've been thinking about you guys a lot and wondering how things are going. When Ian had his ear surgery, all the boys in the class thought the process involved cutting off his ear and sewing it back on. They thought it was the coolest thing they'd ever heard about. His stitches and bandages were badges of honor. He was a bit young to care about the girls' interest then, but now I think he'd have a flock of self-appointed nurses. (grin). Let us know how it's all going. Best -- Jill
Guest guest
Hi Jill - thanks for your warm thoughts He's doing great - I must say I'm amazed! His surgery was Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I have to say we all were thinking we were nuts to put him through this and then by Saturday, he was cheery and back to being Tom. In fact, yesterday I had to remind him to take it easy on himself. He went to school today and did fine. The folks on his school team have been wonderful - so very accommodating. We were looking into C-print to tide him over but have ended up - at least for now - using ed assistants in each class who are typing lectures on a laptop and letting him view what's on the screen. he said that's worked for him. And for now if need be, they're modifying his homework so he's responsible for half the questions rather than te whole thing. Our ToD gave a really good inservice last week about his implant and what it can and can't do so I think we're all on the same page. they're ordering the Sound and Beyond software from cochlear for him for his auditory rehab - I understand it's a good program and one of the few geared towards teens and adults with new implants. Exciting times! I'm just so glad the scary part is over. I know we have a long road ahead but the surgery to me was truly nerve wracking. He even showed his incision to his friends and his science teacher today! I have to say to those of you who have young childen implanted - wow! I think what you're going through has got to be so much harder than what we're going through - you can't really rationalize with a toddler. And even though an adolescent isn't a lot better, he at least gets he shouldn't wrestle with his brother. I'd love to get Tom and Sam and Ian together - that would be so cool! Take care Barbara JillcWood@... wrote: >Barbara, > >I've been thinking about you guys a lot and wondering how things are going. > >When Ian had his ear surgery, all the boys in the class thought the process >involved cutting off his ear and sewing it back on.
