Guest guest
Barbara, I'm so glad to hear all went well today! I would love to hear all about the coming weeks/months, and how Tom adjusts to his new ear-wear. Where did he have the surgery done? Guest guest
Hi Stefanie - he had it done here at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH (which is 15 min from my house!). Glenn 's worked with both boys since they were diagnosed (as ENT), the felow who did the anesthesia is my younger son's baseball coach so it was a pretty comfortable group to be with! Guest guest
Hi Barbara Congrats! So excited for you and Tom! Gives me motivation to shoot for the summer for . Does Tom have to be on antibiotics? If so, how long. is anaphylactically allergic and has to take massive steroids for any antibiotics which is why we've put off the CI. Guest guest
It's tough sending them off...I've had to do it multiple times for . Stomach surgery as an infant, cardiac catheterization at age 2, tubes at age 3 and open heart surgery at age 6. Makes me reluctant to do it again as each time I feel like I'm dying inside. Once again, though, Tom's great success with the procedure helps me get over this...at least for this month! -------------- Original message -------------- > > > --- Barbara Mellert > wrote: > > <> surgery today! >> > > What wonderful news, Barbara! Guest guest
Reading about wheeling them off to surgery reminds me of Allie's second CI surgery. She was 2.5 she loved her surgeon. I remember she was sitting up in her gurney and the surgeon and pediatric anaesthesiologist came over and said it was time. Her surgeon, bless his heart, asked Allie if she wanted to go for a ride.. so the last thing I saw of Allie was her being taken through the big double doors yelling 'faster! faster!' to her surgeon. I still had butterflies but it was hard to worry so much the second time around. > > Hi Barbara > Congrats! So excited for you and Tom! Gives me motivation to shoot for the > summer for . Edith Tom's surgery today Hi everyone - Tom (our 13 year old) had his CI surgery today! He did really well - our surgeon said that it couldn't have gone better (music to my ears!). And our audiologist verified that indeed, all the electrodes are happy and working - yay! We got to the hospital around 7:00 this morning; Tom went into surgery around 8:40. He was very nervous at first - he's really scared of shots but fortunately, he's still small enough that he had gas first, once he had that, he was then given the IV. The anesthesiologist was pretty funny - as he was giving Tom gas, he asked Tom who his best friend is. Tom repied " Win " . So the anes. asked Tom what win looked like - Tom let him know. The anesthesiologist proceeded to put " win's " face on the breathing bag! So Tom's last thoughts were of his best friend, which was pretty nice. Guest guest
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I do believe both times Allie had CI surgery she had an antibiotic pushed through her iv before it was taken out. I think this is standard practice when you have any kind of surgery? Guest guest
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I do believe both times Allie had CI surgery she had an antibiotic pushed through her iv before it was taken out. I think this is standard practice when you have any kind of surgery? Guest guest
I figured they would during surgery, but last time we had checked out for a CI, they recommended 6 weeks of antibiotics afterwards..guess due to the meningitis issue? For those whose children had the surgery, did they or did they not require antibiotics afterwards. -------------- Original message -------------- > Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
