I don't have much to talk about these days, but I do look into the site to see how things are going for people. I did notice you are a regular and frequent contributer. I guess I have become accustomed to my life on dialysis these days and it is very much part of my way of life now, I seldom really think about it. I almost take it for granted, difficult to comprehend if you are not there yet or if you are new to it. Yes I remember you asking about " Toey " . It came up when I was chatting to Leonnie here in Sydney. I still get toey from time to time. We do use a few other phrases peculiar to Australian English which slip out from time to time! Yes I am OK with retirement, another 2 weeks to go and then a medical, and then hopefully medical retirement (my choice). I am 60 this year, and life is for living, not working. That is the conclusion I have come to. I have thought very carefully about this for over a year now as you will recall. It is not a decision to be taken lightly. My part time job is working out well, I do that for pleasure and recreation on a casual basis, no pressure there. Transplant is still on the cards. What about you, , how are you these days. I need to make an appointment to get things checked out. I have not been in for a couple of months and have not had labs done since early March, but at that time I was still holding at 18%. I do have a donor who is going through testing, and so far it looks good but we still have not completed all the tests. I am glad you are able to enjoy life now and I hope you get a transplant soon! I guess from March to May, there was considerable improvement. I've never seen my neph so happy to see and discuss my condition with me. I went from a creatinine of 444 in March to 350 in May. All other bloodwork is fine (potassium 5.1, phosphorus 1.3, albumin 35). He wants me to stay on this new restricted diet as it seems to be working out so well. Kidney function is still at 13%. His opinion is that since my kidney function improved, a transplant for me is no longer as imminent as he thought. Kris and I can take more time to arrange for the transplant operation, when we are ready. I asked him why kidney function/creatinine could possibly change so much or improve, and he's not sure. He says creatinine may be variable but tends to stay at certain level, so if it changes significantly (esp lower function) then it's a problem. Unfortunately, my neph has never really explained the units, just told me a number and whether that was better or worse. Of course, I never really asked either, I'm glad that was able to answer your question! I am on a low-sodium, low-potassium, low-phosphorus diet. They told me to eat lots of protein. Also, I have been taken to task by the dietician for going out so much to eat (she wants me to eat out once a week, not my current once a day - oops!). The diet I'm following is a low-sodium, low potassium, low phosphorus. And they keep encouraging me to eat more meat. It still has a lot of variety, despite being able to eat a few favourite things. The surprising thing was that my neph said I did not need a renal multivitamin right now. So I am only taking a calcium carbonate for phosphorus, salmon fish oil pills and iron pills.
