Guest guest
Thanks for all of the great advice. This board is the best. So much care goes on here. My problem with going forward with the sugery has been that I'm not in much pain. I don't feel as though my condition has changed much since my AVN diagnosis in 1996. The doctors that I have sent my xrays say I need to hurry to get out of pain and I say to myself, " What pain " . I just walked 27 holes of golf last weekend and still feel fine. That is why I am so hesitant with proceeding. Thats how I got in this mess in the first place......trying to ease some pain I had in my foot years ago. Now I've got a bad foot still and a bad hip to go with it. I just can't bring myself to let a doctor make another bad decision that I'll have to live with again. This podaitrist was suppossed to be a well respected podiatrist in the area too. I can see why all of you push to get the procedure done when you are in pain and you can't sit or stand without discomfort. Can you see my problem? Maybe I can try a trip out to see Dr. Mont in person. I'd really love for him to be my guy. Does anyone on the board know of someone that had the procedure done at the advise of doctors when they werent' having much discomfort? > I'm still weighing my options regarding my right hip (AVN since > 1996). Guest guest
I just have to say the " Captain " has hit the nail on the head regarding Dr Mont...he is a man possessed and dedicated to his patients. As a result, he sometimes gets overextended and his staff tries to protect him by trying to manage his schedule. At my 12 week check-up, I had flown to Baltimore for the appointment and they were running behind...no surprise there, but I had lots of time. I was finally sent to an exam room and after a time, in came a " resident " I had never met who tried to examine me, explaining that Dr Mont was running behind and might not be able to get to me. I informed him I had flown him all the way from Utah at my own expense to talk to Dr Mont and was not leaving until I saw him...end of discussion...thank you very much. After I sat in the exam room for 15 more minutes, in walked Dr Mont. He carefully examined me, answered all my questions and raised some additional considerations with me. He then demonstrated some exercises and had me do them, critiqueing me. As I was leaving, he grabbed me and had me come in to see another patient and wanted to show me to show them how well I walked and moved as an example. Whatever you think of Dr Mont and his practice, never doubt for a moment that his biggest concern is YOUR PERSONAL WELFARE. I have seen enough doctors in my life to realize that this is not always the case. Dr Mont is a good, really good surgeon, but most of all, he is a compassionate, caring person. Guest guest
I've been seeing traditional OS's in my area with xrays each year and it doesn't seem to be progressing much. From what some of the first Os's I saw. They had mentioned that probably my bone got soft and then collapsed under strain and that now it has probably hardened again but I am left with uneven sufaces that won't wear well. So I don't think it has progressed much in that amount of time. If I'll have enough joint left to resuf is a gamble either way. > > Thanks for all of the great advice. This board is the best. Guest guest
, I went to Belgium and spent fours days walking and riding bikes all over Gent and Brugge. I'll admit I was sore when walking into the hospital, but still walking with no problem. For years most people had no idea I had hip problems and I was functioning just fine. I decided to get the first hip done because I was worried that it was going to deteriorate to the point that I would not be able to get resurfaced. I am watching my other hip very carefully too. It has been six months and once again nobody can tell I have a hip problem and I get weird looks when I use my disabled placard. Our bodies have a way of covering up pain little by little by having us walk like ducks... it takes the pressure off the joint but it screws up your back and neck. This group helped me to decide to get it done sooner rather than later... I'm glad I didn't wait too long. good luck with your decision. June > Thanks for all of the great advice. Guest guest
If you can walk 27 holes without much pain, I wonder why you feel it's time to do anything. I'd certainly talk to some Drs who have looked at some charts and xrays. I can't walk 6 holes before quitting---I have to ride a cart and can then make it 18 but have hip pain for two days--level 3-5 on a scale of 10, but I find it starting to restrict my participation in more golf and other activities. dball63 dball63@...> wrote: Thanks for all of the great advice. Thats how I got in this mess in the first place......trying to ease some pain I had in my foot years ago. Now I've got a bad foot still and a bad hip to go with it.
