Guest guest
Ive come accross the suggestion that our body is a metaphor for ourconflicts. on a psychic/energetic and psychologicallevel our body is acting out our emotions or unresolved conflicts orself destructive drives. I was born with both hips completely dislocated. I believe it was strictly a structural defect that was not caught early enough to be repaired correctly, and like any structural defect, has affected the structure negatively. I'm certain there is a mind connection as we have learned to deal with pain and disability, but not as you describe above. I think I've become a stronger person, with a lot of drive to get things done instead of withdrawing and being a couch potato as could have easily happened. I've also learned to enjoy the good stuff and not waste my time chasing fluff balls (they will still be there when I return from my fun). I've noticed a change since surgery too. I'm much less afraid than I used to be. Not afraid of surgery, hospitals, trying new things, meeting new people--a positive change I hope... Guest guest
well.... I've done martial arts for many years. One part of traditional training is that you must learn various types of massage (shiatsu, seifukujutsu) and be trained in traditiional oriental medicine (TOM). I've studied these with folks who run TOM practices in Japan that are nationally known there. I've been licensed as a massage technician too. I just want you to know that I've been doing this stuff for many years so you know where I'm coming from. There is a lot of good practical knowledge in TOM and it should be more widely known. Now, let us begin... First off, this is a load of crap. Analogies about the human condition is not diagnosis. Your practitioner has tapped into a gold mine though, since s/he can explain away just about malady (usually called " bad chi " ) with no explanation of the mechanism for these physiological changes, viz., without giving propositions that can be shown to be false, this counts as pseudoscience. Bottom line is, Hell if s/he knows. Ask if s/he suggests you forgo getting a new hip in preference to the laying on of hands to right your energy levels. If so, then run (well, hobble quickly) to the nearest exit. Though you didn't mention is don't let then prescribe anything to take internally, since a lot of such medicines are either little better than water (homeopathy) or might have something nasty (mercury or lead are popular in some Chinese medicines and yes if you take a does you can tell it's doing something). As long as these are not sold as medicine they can skirt most regulations, so just because they are selling it doesn't mean it's ok. Secondly, memories are stored heterarchically, so that weird relations between them exist and this is often how they are triggered (School learning is hierarchical, with fact A leading to fact B, etc. in a nice logical orderly progression, which is why some folks have such a hard time internalizing information that way, but I digress.) That things pop into your head at random times just reflects the random nature of these relations and no greater importance than that should be attached to them. Under the power of suggestion, these can take a turn to the negative. This is a favorite for sleazy therapists who re-awaken " suppressed " childhood memories that they guide to some hysterical end. The point is that they are in control and that's really the only important thing for them, your welfare be damned. Don't get me wrong, a bad memory can be triggered but thoughts are just that. If there is more s/he is doing with it, they might be very pleasantly handing you a stick of dynamite. Look, you are vulnerable. You have a ghastly condition and this sort of talk can make you feel horrible beyond description while offering no solution. Deep tissue massage and accupressure therapy can feel darn good, but while I don't know what caused your condition, I'll bet you $20 that it ain't this. After you get fixed, sure, go get some massage, the deeper the better to break up adhesions and move soft tissue around. Sorry if I'm grumpy, but I've seen good, professional uses of this (e.g. after a hard martial arts practice, ain't nothing better) as well as some frankly criminally irresponsible behavior. I'll hope the former but must caution you against the latter. If they think this is really the case, tell them I'd *love* to see their sources and they'd sure as Hell better be able to back it all up to the standard found in a Western Medical Journal. It's BS if they claim it's all a secret so it can't be revealed. BTW my condition was caused by a very slight deformity. So slight, it would have taken a professional quite some digging to find it while I was young. I'm all better now. > -- jeff rBHR Aug. 1, 2001 Mr. McMinn ================== " Our greatest pretenses are built up not to hide the evil and the ugly in us, but our emptiness.
