Guest guest
Hi All A small article in the NHS Kingston Hospital Magazine. http://www.kingstonhospital.nhs.uk/downloads/gpgjul02.pdf It announces " Metal-on-metal hip resurfacing for the younger patient with osteoarthritis Joint replacement is an excellent treatment for elderly patients with various forms of arthritis of the hip joint. have all improved the likelihood of hip replacements being more satisfactory for the younger patients. However wear on materials remains the main cause of failure in the long term. Sir Charnley and many other hip outcomes are being monitored nationally by the Institute of Orthopaedics at Oswestry. A study of Birmingham Hip Resurfacing done throughout the United Kingdom in the last four years has revealed 0.82 per cent of patients requiring revision. Of these failures, over half was due to a fracture of the neck of the femur (due to poor quality bone). " Rog PS For the Brits the waiting times are published on the last few pages.
