My little boy developed eczema at 4 months, and he was solely breastfed. I hate

to tell you this, but you CANNOT eat ANYTHING that he is allergic/sensitive to

until you completely stop breastfeeding. If you're eating gluten, then he is not

gluten-free.

I would recommend seeing a good allergist - one that is a DAN! doctor would be

ideal. He'll need to have skin tests for IgE allergies, and blood tests for IgG

sensitivities. You'll need to completely pull out all those foods that come back

positive from BOTH you and your son's diet. Eczema is caused by allergies, so if

your son is having any breakouts or visible signs of eczema, he's still

ingesting allergens. (Unfortunately, there's alot of misinformation out there

with most physicians even with regard to eczema - most pediatricians - even at

major children's hospitals - will still deny that eczema is caused by

allergies!)

A DAN! doctor may have some additional supplements.

How much probiotics are you giving him?

This is the perfect time to take aggressive action. You might save yourself alot

more time, money, and heartache down the road!!!!!!

in the breastmilk. His stools are sometimes weird, but better with

probiotics. I hate worrying about this. I can't wait until he is older

My son did regress without vaccination (not exactly sure what caused it).

He does have multiple food allergies.

Give Cod Liver Oil (switch to the without A & D multi...Kirkman has a few).

Avoid toxins. Give digestive enzymes (I switched from the Kirkman to

Houston brand...they are much better). PRAY!!!

I am in the same board!

I know my 20 mo daughter is mercury toxic (hair test when she was 9

mo) and she is still NT so far. She is still nursing too, on a

special diet too. I give her selenium, zinc and omega3.

I had some classic blood work run, especially to check thyroid. She

has hypothyroidism.

What I am afraid is that mercury causes slowly more and more damage,

thus causing developmental regression in a child, even if the child

is no more exposed.

I am going to test her hair again soon and if she still meets the

counting rules, I'll probably start chelation when she turns 2yo.

Did you do a hair test?

Have you considered that your son may have Sensory Integration

Dysfunction? My son is not on the spectrum, (he's 7), but I had to

have him evaluated (three times) between the ages of 5 and seven

because he " looks " like he has Asperger's Syndrome. He is a

flapper, has a slow, awkward, gait, is very intelligent, talks with

a bit of a melodic tone, and " spaced out " a lot in K. Turns out he

has CAPD, SID, ADD-I, and dyslexia. And " thinks " nothing at all

like a kiddo with an ASD.

I had him evaluated by two Psychologists and TEAACH. The fist

Psychologist ruled it out, without a lot of formal tests, so did

TEAACH, and then, as his school (private Catholic) was still not

convinced, I MADE a neuropsychologist do a full battery of tests

just for ASD's (along with a complete neuropsychological evaluation

as he was struggling so much both in school and socially). All

three reports complemented each other, and it took months! Lots of

different doctors and specialists, too. OK, I'm off on a tangent.

Back to you! May I suggest you get a copy of *The Out-of-Sync-

Child* see if you get any light-bulb moments, and if so, take him

to EI and get him an OT eval. I realize you probably know a lot

about SID, because of your older son, but it is just some FYI if you

don't!

, not trying to " poo-poo " your concerns, but even typical kids

have occasional funky poops and flap around that age a little bit.

My first was typical, my 18 mo old seems typical (a slight

expressive speech delay, but very typial otherwise). I watch

babies/toddlers at church and they flap, too. Not like ASD, but

there is some flapping going on, they (church kids and mine) seem to

do with extreme emotion, either excitement or anger.

I also noticed that Dinah (18mo) got *slightly* more quiet between

12-18mos, but is now picking up on language just in the past week. I

do think the walking thing gets their attention for a time. It's so

very, very difficult not to obsess over every aspect of their

development after having a child with ASD, but many ASD behaviors

are done by NT kids, just the ASD kids are ultra super extreme, and

it's not a passing phase with ASD like with typical kids. I've

watched Dinah walk backward or spin and thought, " Oh no, here it

goes, " only to see her stop a couple of days later. I can now see

she was learning something new about her body. Have you had any

assessments through your early intervention? Any signs of delays at

all?

Environmental assaults [like antimony in mattresses, air pollution,

etc]. Can also be the contracting of a virus. Other things probably.

My #4 flaps, she also mis-pronounces her words even tho she can say

them correctly. She does quite a few things that my #2 and #3 do,

because she is a great imitator. Drives me crazy, but she is just

imitating her brothers.

What other exposures to mercury could you have? Do you have a lot of dark

fillings in your mouth? Do you eat a lot of fish? Do you live neat a

coal-fired power plant?

SID is caused by mercury poisoning. It all goes back to the same cause.

I have 2 boys as well and I've watched the second one more closely (he is

less vaccinated). He is now 4 1/2 and still no sign of real problems.

Did your older son regress because of a vaccination? If so, your 2nd child

will probably be fine.

My older son was born sensitive and regressed further after an MMR shot.

I know it can make you crazy worrying about it, but you don't need the

stress. A few signs like hand flapping don't equate to PDD or ASD. My

second son toe walks and lines up his trains - he is obsessed with trains,

but he is NT. My 3rd child (no vaccinations) is now 2 and I was worried a

bit because she talked later than the first one. But now she has caught up.

Try not to stress about it and just limit exposure and keep up the good

diet.

Might also want to check into NAET www.naet.com though it works for allergies

but not for gluten and casein issues.
