Guest guest Posted February 8, 2004 Report Share Posted February 8, 2004 Just wanted to update everyone on my progress since my resurf went bad due to AVN and I had a THR on December 30. It has been almost six weeks and I am very happy with NO pain except the minimal pain caused form the surgery itself. I am now putting all my weight on my leg and it has responded well. I was 50% weight bearing for six weeks. I did have about a week with some pretty intense pain. It felt like it was a tendon or a ligament and when I moved the wrong way it shot some pretty serious pain down my leg. I actually forced taht pain to come and the next day I was hurting pretty badly. But, the day after that I can not feel that anymore. It seems to be stretched out. I put the crutch down yesterday and began to walk unassisted. It does place strain on my back since I am still limping. My leg is also much longer and will be according to my Doc until I have the other hip done. My chiro is taking Xrays next week so that he can have the right dimensions for a lift. These lifts will cost about five bucks. So, I decided to use the cane and am happy with the way I can walk with it..I can walk with almost no limp..the only limp being casued by leg length difference. I will begin some aquatic exercises in about a week. I can bend over with no problem, but cannot yet put my sock on. I haven't tried bringing my leg up to see if I can put the sock on the right way. A little scared of that one. I think that I will wait another month for that to make sure that the bone has grown into the stem The doc told me that he would suggest that I just get the Corin THR with my left hip. He did say that I may or may not get AVN again but if it were him he would get the THR. I believe that is what I am going to do. I jsut have to tell everyone that there is life after a failed resurf. I have come back from this surgery so fast I cannot believe it. I went back to work after two weeks and was driving at two also. This surgery was so much easier for me. It took me five weeks to go to work after the resurf and it took about four months to feel good. that was short lived too becasue I started going down hill at five months. I also have to mention something strange that happened. I was getting fevers a few months before the surgery. I continued with those fevers until about two weeks ago. They seemed to vanish. I was tested in the hospital for a heart virus and gallbladder problems. Those came beack negative. I really feel that the AVN and pain and inflammation from that casued these fevers. AVN from resurf happens 1 in a 10000. ph (on this list...another AVN following resurf ) said that since he and I got this, that it clears the way for the next 2000 resurfers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would think it must be such a relief to be feeling better after all the hassles of the last few months.......... I am sure you are very pleased to be rid of that fever, I can imagine it wouldn't help your health at all......... I suspect you will notice an even bigger pick up once you start the aquatic exercises.......... I continue to be amazed by how much benefit I get out of these myself and new ways I discover to exercise specific parts while in the water........... My son gave me a couple to do to help with that small muscle down the back of the hip that holds the knee in and it has only taken a couple of pool days now to pick it up noticeably......... so water really works both on specific areas and picking up general health.......... And with a proved problem with developing AVN under a resurface cap I would agree that your surgeon has the best advice to go with a THR for the 2nd........ for even if you and ph have taken up a lot of the odds it isn't really much fun to be facing potentially more than one op in a few months to do a revision.......
