I was bilaterally resurfed with an 18 month interval. My best guess is that before hammering away at the muscle with exercise, one needs to get it " balanced " for maybe a year or so, with relatively moderate exercise. I'm almost 9 months post-op on the painful one and like you, have gone at it hammer and tongs. Last night at the beginning of my karate class, I was amazed at how much better it felt, and was able to do really hard chest-height front kicks. I did about 15 min. of sparring and felt fine. This morning, my psoas hurts quite a bit when I lift the leg. I'm reassured by the fact that the pain lessens after a couple of days without doing anything, so I put it down to overdoing it when I feel good. Our bodies need ample time to readjust and perhaps what we forget is that we got older while waiting for our surgery, sometimes a lot older. All in all, though, I feel I'm performing better than I did when I was 25, and I'll be 50 this July. Time will tell. I suspect you're feeling the impatience of an accomplished athlete. We like improving when in fact the odds are it won't continue in the same way. I'm a believer that we just have to accept improvement in our finesse once we hit a certain age, because the young 'uns have the advantage in speed. Guest guest
Let them rest for a few months and then gradually start to get them strong again. 4 months is way early in the healing process even for a young stud like yourself. JB BHR 04/02 and 50 also.
Guest guest
Hi Barry, I am almost 38 and had both hips resurfaced last May. I also played at the very high level and trying again to get into it again. My right hip is 100%, but my left gets the same symptoms as yours. However, I found a new love in running, so I lose a lot of strength and ability to lift left leg straight up, like stepping on a very tall step or a chair, or getting out of the car only when I run and run pretty fast (like 6 min/mile). I talked to trainer and he said that it is my hip flexor and that I need w. training, so started on that. if I was not active, or just biking, I think left hip would be 100% as well, but " pounding " seems to affect that flexor. Celebrex does a very good job of " masking " the problem, but I am so happy that I don't need any more medications. I think, also, that in about a year time span things can heal fully. I hope. Miren Hip flexor Hello everyone I am 4 months post op feb 2. I was a very active tournament level tennis player, (50 yr) old winning matches against guys half my age. Ok reality check...thats the past...So now, I have worked my way back to lifting heavy weights at the gym. I have also increased my cardio to 45 min on a bike machine, or stair climber or eliptical machine. Sometimes i do one half hour, just recently one hour. My question is this. What is up with my deep hip flexors, they are still sore, they still hurt when i try to do leg lifts. When are these ligaments going to heal?? Yours, Barry..... Guest guest
Barry, I'm glad to know someone else is having difficulty with hip flexors....my left anterior thigh/hip flexor is very slow to gain strength and continues to hurt when I do too many leg lifts. There is no pain when I press on it and none when I walk, just when I'm doing forward leg lifts. My PT said that time should take care of everything and to just be patient and continue to work the muscle gently. I have found that if I will do my leg lifts every other day instead of every day, I gain strength more easily. My left hip was the first to go and was hurting for at least 6 yrs prior to surgery. I had both hips done 5 months ago and my right hip and leg muscles feel fine. Hope this helps!
