Hi Topper,

I understand your rationale, i.e. Hyper vs. Hashis but I have never ever ever had moons on my nails other than my thumbs.

Sue

Remember that Hashi's cycles... you may have gone through a hyper phase... I was increasingly hyper for 2 decades and never new it...

Hashi's most often comes to light in it's hypo phase, cuz hyper, depending on how extreme, just makes us feel great, productive... hypo makes us feel like sh**.

I checked hubby's fingernails last night and he has moons on all of them. He has no history of thyroid disease and has no trouble with his weight or energy levels. What does this mean? Is it just a hashi's test or overall hyper/hypo state?... Judy

I found this reference to the half-moon on the fingernails. Many references point to inadaquate oxygen and circulation in people who don't have them, so maybe it's more of a hypo thing?

Because the Lunule (half-moon), which appears on the fingernail, is a reflective sign of saturation levels of cellular oxygen, a normal person should have 4 lunule on each hand, excluding the pinkie. A patient who lacks lunule on the fingernails (circulation blocked) will usually experience such symptoms as having cold hands and feet, numbness of the limbs, no energy and memory loss.

It’s true for me on the cold hands UNTIL I started T3 in April and then BAMO! Warm hands :)

Hmmmm, looks like it’s related to T3 unless that is just helping with my circulation?

This topic is getting even HOTTER than Selenium and your “sex” Spiff!

I hear that. I'm on my 5th day or so of taking 100mcg Eltroxin (syn T4) and 1/4 grain Armour. This gives me about 2% T3 as per Dr. Blanchards recommendations and I must say that I'm feeling pretty spunky. I just took my temp and it's an unprecedented 98.1 degrees! I can't wait for winter to test it out. (haha just kidding).

So far this morning I've gotten dressed, had breakfast, did all the dishes, put on a load of laundry, made the bed! and I'm about to bake some stevia muffins. I'd say that's a testimonial. I am feeling a little antsy, but I took my Armour earlier today to test it out. I think I'll go back to having the levo in the AM and the Armour just after lunch before my workout.

If anyone else is interested in the 98%T2/2% T3 theory of Dr. Blanchard, here's a link to an interview he did with powersurge... Judy

It's a thyroid thing.... the mention of B-12 deficiency also exhibiting loss of moons got me to thinking... a lot of folks with thyroid problems end up with absorption problems, both hyper and hypo.. that's why we have to keep an eye out for B vitamin deficiencies as well as iron and calcium....

Part of the muscle cramping involved with longer term/severe hyper/thyroid storm is that the body can't get enough oxygen into the blood to keep it up.... I was actually panting, just sitting still trying to keep enough air in me when I was in storm.... I even did this thing when I was talking to folks where it was kinda like a yawn, but wasn't, it was weird... that was cuz just standing and talking I couldn't get enough air into me fast enough to keep up with my body.... that was a visual observation that wasn't even picked up by the first doc I saw....

Last time I went in to the dr and had my oxygen checked it was 94. I asked if that was bad or good, she said that since 100 was top, 94 was pretty good. But I see you did get that I was referring to your he/she –ness that was in question for some here — not by you, of course :)

It does seem a bit risqué now that I re-read it ... Oh well, sometimes ya just gotta spice things up a little :)
