I read your reflection about the news of a divorce in which the husband wants one of his kidneys back....and it reminded me of my own situation. My divorce was final December 15, 2008. However, prior to the conclusion there was much discussion relative to marital vs. non-marital property. My husband decided he wanted a divorce once I was diagnosed because "he didn't want to deal with terminal illness and sickness". His exact words were, "You're the one that is sick; I shouldn't have to suffer." That said, I didn't pursue the divorce; he did. I did not ask for anything out of the divorce. I did not ask for the house, or my half of it; I did not ask for alimony - even though he earn's well over $100k per year and I am living on Social Security Disability income; I did not ask for half of the savings or half of

his profit sharing at his employment or his retirement. I simply asked that I be permitted to take what belonged to me prior to marriage and that property which was non-marital in nature. Well, the conclusion was awful. I did not get all that belonged to me, nor will I ever get it. And, the grand finale....HE ARGUED THAT THE POWER WHEEL CHAIR I GOT AFTER DIAGNOSIS WAS "MARITAL" PROPERTY BECAUSE HIS INSURANCE PAID FOR IT AND I ACQUIRED IT DURING THE MARRIAGE. It takes all kinds to make this world go around!

Tina and Gwynne,

Divorce is awful to have to go through. My last one was like we had to find out who could grab what first and go with it. My ex even kept my youngest son's toybox and I did not get it back until almost a year later (he was 7 at the time). Some men are just plain out JERKS, but I look at it this way. God will see to it they get what they deserve one way or another. What goes around comes around, ya know? Keeping your power wheelchair? That was just plain WRONG!!

I have been battling with back pain really bad for the last 2 days. I fear my 2 bulging disks may have ruptured. Yesterday I sat here and cried half the day trying to type. Have been sitting on heating pad and taking extra Lorcet for the pain and nothing is helping. Even tried a REALLY hot shower last night hoping the hot water would help and that didn't help, either. Have doc appointment next Thursday, so was trying to hold out until then. Am supposed to get my second epidural steroid injection February 2 (even though the first one only made it worse). I plan to have a long talk with the Pain Clinic doc when I get there. Am wondering if I should call before then. I may call later today if it stays as bad as it has been the last 2 days. What a bummer!!

Hope everyone has a HAPPY FRIDAY and a great weekend!!CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 SJOGREN SYNDROME 07/08Mississippi

Caro,

CALL THE DOCTOR!!!!! You can't stay in that kind of pain till next Thursday woman. For one thing you could damage your back further by waiting that long. The pain is telling you there's something that needs attention.

The other thing to be aware of is this. Pain makes you take rapid shallow breaths. When you aren't breathing as deeply as you can, bacteria can set up housekeeping in your lungs and you could possibly end up with pneumonia. Being in this kind of pain for a long period of time can have serious unintended consequences.

Please, please please call the doctor NOW!!!

Besides you're too darn nice to be in that kind of pain, treat yourself right, ok?

Love,

Tina,

Your story makes me shudder. I walked away from my marriage with nothing but what I could carry in two canvas bags and my son. That was my decision, he got to keep all the 'stuff' and I got my son. I got the better deal.

But your ex takes the cake....your power chair? Just know this, what goes around, comes around. Eventually this kind of behavior is bound to catch up with him.

Hugs to you!

Hi gang,

Per the conversation on divorce I feel there are just as many BAD women as men during the split up. My first wife hid all of the items I was to get in the split. Some as simple as pots and pans that were heirlooms of family. Record albums I brought in the marriage, a chain saw, tools to be split 50/50. In August will be 10 years and in October she is to pay over $37,000.00 because she got to keep the house. I took a second mortgage and the loan is due this year which is 10 years. She has been receiving half of my retirement from G.E. since last May. I know I will have to go to court to try to get the money. During our separation 2 1/2 years I paid mortgage, insurance and all taxes and she lived in the house. I lived in a small 1 room cabin. She stole a lot of items belonging to me that were personal, i.e. High school ring, photos, antiques from my father, and guns I purchased. It is not always the man at fault, although I do feel there is blame for all.

Just my 2 cents worth.

We did enjoy seeing Tina at Christmas when we visited Ohio.

I did not ask for the house, or my half of it; I did not ask for alimony - even though he earn's well over $100k per year and I am living on Social Security Disability income; I did not ask for half of the savings or half of his profit sharing at his employment or his retirement. I simply asked that I be permitted

to take what belonged to me prior to marriage and that property which was non-marital in nature.

God Bless,

Tina

Jon and Teri,I'm thinking of you and praying for some answers andgood outcomes from the s Hopkins study.I hope you are taking good care of yourselves whiledealing with this stress. You've been through a lot.I'm glad you have each other. Bless you both.. hangin there!Gita, Beth, and Caro,I probably won't write a book, because that entails somuch reliving the past. That's not something I want todo, but if it would really help people I might ought toconsider it. Lou,Wishing you a good day and an even better tomorrow!Big hugs to you. Beth,I hope your biopsies went well. I had a punch biopsydone on my cheek recently, and it turned out to be abasil cell carcinoma. I'll have to have a Moh's surgeryto remove it. Bah - makes me grumpy. P,Thanks so much for the great post on aging. Itcontains a lot of little pearls of wisdom. I

hadread it before somewhere, but I'm delighted toget to read it again. Take care.Mike,I never used a concentrator, but a lot of board membershave experience with the Inogen model. Maybe you'llget some direction from one of them. Good luck.,I'm very glad you're back home and out of theBig House. I'm sorry things ballooned out ofcontrol with the UTI. You didn't need pneumonia.Hope you're getting some good rest - I'm sureyou need it. I currently have a UTI too, that testedpositive for e-coli. No picnic but at least it hasn'tdeveloped into a huge deal like yours did. It'salways something, right?Joyce,Thanks for sharing the wonderful article in whichyour interview is included. I wish everyone couldread it. There is such a critical need for more peopleto register as donors, and it's so easy to register!Today I heard a wild story from a friend who heardon

the news about a couple who are getting divorced. The woman has had two kidney transplants, onefrom her husband. Now he wants it back! Unreal, huh?Leanne,How ARE you doing these days? Well, I hope. Hope youhad a lovely Christmas and will have a stable, happyNew Year, my friend.Hugs and blessings,Gwynne 57 Single-lung Transplant for IPF on 4-3-08at UTHSC - San Fort Worth, TX
