Hi everyone,

I'm leaving in a little while to have my skin and my muscle biopsies done. They are both very simple procedures so aside from a little soreness I don't expect any problems.

Wish me luck!!

Good luck. They may both be simple but I'm still a wimp toward them and

know I'll end up having them.

It would be from rheumatologist belief that she has dermatomyositis.

They often do these to determine connective tissue diseases, especially

polymyositis and dermatomyositis.

HI BRUCE: Thanks so much for answering my question about MB's muscle

test. The pulmo said my muscle weakness yesterday was caused from

either, PF itself!!..... Prednisone........ or Crestor.

WELL, Bruce, now I am back with the black patch on my left eye

probably for good. If the eye isn't any better (sight wise) in 1

month, he will do a prescription for it at that time and I will just

have to live with it. You have always said you don't like stuff

being done to your eyes, I am getting that way, but they were

wonderful to me and very professional and clean and did all they

could for me and I know that. They really wanted to make my sight

better and VA Eye Inst. is the best around. If you get gittery

about something happening to your eyes, just grit your teeth and you

will feel no pain. I will prob. be putting drops in for a while yet,

also what they call " tear drops " for both eyes. Said my eyes were

very dry. Do you do those at all?

Thanks again, Bruce

Lou

Many of us either have or are suspected of possibly having connective

tissue/autoimmune diseases. PF itself may ultimately be found to be very

similar to them in nature and cause. Often we're classified as

Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease, meaning they think we have

something, but don't know what and think it may or may not manifest

itself sometime so they can figure out what it is. Now, there is a

belief too that these diseases can sometimes be the underlying causes of

the PF, especially when someone has NSIP. And, if that is the case, then

treating the connective tissue disease can slow or stop even for a while

the progression of the PF.

We have several members who do have one of the Myositis's, either Poly

or Dermato. Those can be very mild in nature or quite severe. I've been

tested and labbed to death and while there are indications I have a

connective tissue muscle disease they cannot diagnose me as having one.

So my rheumatologist keeps checking and referring. He's honestly much

more concerned about figuring it out than I am. I figure if I do have

one that sometime it will manifest itself in another way. For MB that

appears to be a typical Dermatomyositis problem of skin rash. Now, in my

case, even if I have an autoimmune disease it probably is not the cause

of my PF, since I do have UIP. But, this whole thing is so complicated,

I just live my life and don't worry about it. I may have an EMG sometime

which could lead to a muscle biopsy which could lead to figuring it out

which then could just lead to a whole new question of what do we do

about it.

I had a Muscle biopsy back in 12/98 to prove I had Polymositis. The start of my DOWN turn, that keeps on going down and down and down. Feels like I am getting near the bottom LOL P PM (Polymositis) 12/98, UIP 8/00, o2 24/7 9 LPM 8/04, PH 3/06, ILL yo 60Subject: Re: Biopsies todayTo: Breathe-Support Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 12:34 PM

I realize that you have been on that downturn and from the day

Polymyositis was first mentioned to me, you were the first one I thought

of. I do hope that you're just having the best life still you can and

getting the care and support you need. I know you've been one to keep

going as much as possible and I admire that. Did your Polymyositis

manifest itself fully limiting your mobility or did it sort of linger

there with some symptoms but the main one remaining the PF?

What did you do for the Polymyositis treatment wise?
