Guest guest
I guess, to answer my own question, I AM! Met with my onc. radiologist yesterday for a 1 month follow up after treatment. I told her how I was feeling (yucky) and told her about my trouble with swallowing and throat issues (which I've already told my onc. surgeon, med. oncologist and gyn. oncologist about). She simply looked in my folder and reviewed my CT from back in July and asked me, " Well, what were the results that came from the goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) they found on your CT? " I was completely caught off guard. This is the first time I had heard about that. She quickly copied me off the test results from all of my scans and the recommendation (back in july) was that my goiter should be clinically evaluated. Back to my original question, Who's in Charge??? Luckily, I do have an appointment scheduled with my primary Doc. on Monday and will bring the report to her and ask her, what's next? It just seems to me that with a team of so many Dr.s, someone should have seen this, or at least relayed the information to me, somewhere along the line. I don't want to lose faith in this team overseeing my treatment, but I feel a little left out of the loop here. Am I overreacting?? This could be simply an overactive thyroid which will require medication or something more serious. But it makes me mad, especially after informing them all that I was having trouble swallowing, someone didn't notice this until almost 3 months later. Thanks for letting me vent here - I'm probably overreacting but if I'm not informed, I feel less confidence and more nervous about what else they've " missed " telling me about. Do you guys request hard copies of your test results? Will hospital's do that? Thanks, Ellen
Guest guest
Ellen, I think you will have to see an endocrinologist for your thyroid. Your primary care dr should be able to recommend one. You are in my prayers. Guest guest
Boy oh Boy, have I asked this question a million times! In addition to BC, I've also been dealing with heart stuff, and I'm telling you that the only one who knows " most " of the truth is ME (or you, or us). Thank heaven I have an Onc who literally shows me the test results and then I talk to my primary to see if he has seen them, and then to the Cardiologist to see if he knows what is going on. It's crazy, but then so is this whole darn thing! Maya > > Ellen, > I think you will have to see an endocrinologist for your thyroid. Your primary care dr should be able to recommend one. Guest guest
ellen - you have a right to a copy of all your medical records - the hospital can charge a copy fee, but there is a cap on that as well. marisa Who's in Charge Here? > > > I guess, to answer my own question, I AM! Guest guest
I have had everybody offer me copies, and I would think that would (or should) be the norm. I bought a big pink notebook (because hey, I have a theme going here : ) and put tabs with all the docs names, hosp, path, etc. I think I would be rather suspicious of any doc that was not too forthcoming with info. I would think you could have them put a note in your file (my onc. put one in mine - his idea) to please give patient copies of tests and stuff. You could always say something like, " You know my lawyer told me his doctors give him copies of all his tests.... " That might just do the trick : ) - Jen On Fri, 29 Sep 2006 14:05:07 -0700 (PDT) Marisa Steffers writes: > ellen - you have a right to a copy of all your medical records - the > hospital can charge a copy fee, but there is a cap on that as well. > > marisa > Boy oh Boy, have I asked this question a million times! > Thank heaven I have an Onc who literally shows me the test > results and then I talk to my primary to see if he has seen them, > and then to the Cardiologist to see if he knows what is going on. > It's crazy, but then so is this whole darn thing! > > Maya

Guest guest
Absolutely, Ellen. I request hard copies from which ever doctor ordered the test, when I see them. That is how I knew Her2 had not been done on the mastectomy tissue. I had the path report in my hot little hand. As I posted before, I made a stik about it and now that hospital will be doing Her2 testing on all invasive primary tumors from mastectomies and lumpectomies. We are the ones in charge. We are the ones most affected if a mistake is made or follow up is not adequate. Guest guest
Jen - You're a kick! Actually, I don't think that any Dr. withheld anything from me, I suspect that the finding was overlooked - or maybe one just assumed that the other was following up. " I " need to be the one following up on these things so I guess, live and learn, I will now be requesting printed reports of all my tests. Guest guest
One more thing...it's not just us sometimes...my gyn asked me to please keep him posted on things (this was at the beginning). he said that the Diagnostic Center (mammos) was terrible about forwarding mammo records to him on his patients - he is a great gyn - came to visit me in the hosp after my mastectomy - which I thought was VERY nice - but I remember him saying he had a hard time sometimes with other docs keeping him in the loop (whew! longwinded P.S. : ) - Jen (AGAIN : ) On Sun, 01 Oct 2006 02:28:43 -0000 " Ellen " writes: > Jen - You're a kick!
