Guest guest
Hi You don't say where your from. It's not important but sometimes it helps get advice and support from someone close to home. Many people are going the route of hip resurfacing - I've been a member of this site for a little over 2 years and had BHR's done in 2001 (March left and May right) in Birmingham England by Ronan Treacy. I am totally happy with the outcome and welcome any questions you may wish to ask. Guest guest
Hi Jacqui, These sites can be really great to find.......... I initially found I could have a new life via Totallyhip - the THR list........ Constant pain isn't much fun and bodies don't do well not getting enough exercise and our minds seem to follow suit.......... I got my life back via a BHR Aug 02 and it has given me 18 months of happiness getting fit and well again.......... It is a real joy to be able to go for a swim and feel a few muscles working instead of feeling unhappy and as you say, needing antidepressants to just cope.......... Most here will tell you that the best thing you can do now is try to get some level of fitness going preop......... helps on the day and recovery.......... Water is best but you may be in cold country and that hard.......... Anything will help, even if it is just your arms for crutches, sticks etc.............and I am sure stopping smoking will be most helpful........... Guest guest
Hi Jacqui Where are you getting the resurf done? I too had to give up all my sports and live a sedentary life, which I hated. Also put on weight...Now I am starting to get my life back, after surgery in August. I am 59, so it will probably take longer to get fit than someone your age, but now I know that I can, instead of going downhill from lack of movement. Good luck! Guest guest
Hello Jacqui I'm really pleased for you that you're able to get a BHR. I know any major operation is nerve wracking, but this one has such a high success rate that it isn't worth worrying. Just try and focus on how wonderful your life will be in a few months when disability is a distant memory. Maybe choose your new mountain bike or which gym you'll enrol at. I had to plan for care for my 15 month old son post- op and was convinced that all sorts of awful things would happen. He was wonderful though - v. gentle with my operated leg and v. helpful - fetching things I'd dropped etc.. Now I carry my heavy almost 3 year old for long walks up steep hills on my shoulders and run races back down with him!! Best of luck Kathy > Hi Jacqui > Where are you getting the resurf done? Guest guest
Wow, Kathy! Running downhill with your 3-year-old on your shoulders is impressive! I could never have done that at any time in my life, even long before disability struck. What a succesful outcome!
