Guest guest
HANG IN THERE!!! You'll be so glad.... Barbara, drink water when you want tto smoke, take tiny sips, it takes your mind off the craving. I quit after my beloved Mom died of cancer. Can you imagine? When she was DYING, I couldn't quit. When she was gone, I finally saw the light. It was very very tough. Sharon in D.C. 3.5 days...... i have not smoked for 3.5 days.... i cant help but get an urge here and there.. but so far, i have not given in. im hoping i dont start getting grouchy. we'll see. barbara To Subscribe to 's monthly FREE Newsletter send an email to GBCookbook-subscribe@... Guest guest
Hey Barbara, congratulations! way to go and keep it up! ummm I hate to disagree with Mom, but you aint' over the worst of it! LOL it is just as you think you got it made that the craving from hell will hit, BUT! you now KNOW that you can beat it! I was supposed to quit smoking (shhhhhh don't tell my surgeon) 6 weeks prior to surgery, I tried! really really I did! (ask my poor husband and all my family) but just like eating I became a closet smoker at home and I could pack a bunch of cigarettes in, in half the time, at work. Ok, ok! shhhhhhhh don't hit me anyone. Now I knew the reason for not smoking pre and post op (I am a nurse, hangs my head). 1) I was having surgery to get healthy (duh! and I am going to smoke? with huge history of cancer in my family, pic an organ, any organ!) and I knew that smoking could and in my case WOULD cause an ulcer in my pouch. Night before surgery (Oct 7, 2002)I sat in the bathroom, having a love affair with every last cigarette I had hidden, crying, not wanting to give up the carcinogens (and I PASSED the psych eval?) I am proud to say I have NOT had a cigarette since! none, nada, not one! have I wanted one? you betcha! can you imagine living with me post op??????????? nicotine, carb and sugar withdrawal???? it was NOT pretty! I do think that is one of the reasons I am a slow loser (5 months post op, -65lbs) My husband is in 7th heaven (except we are going shopping for clothes for me today, and ummmmm I have a huge bill on protein and sf syrups) He quit smoking 8 years ago, but he unfortunately quit kinda late and is suffering terribly from COPD. All this is said because (well other then tooting my own horn! LOL) YOU CAN DO THIS! and you will be sooooooooo happy and proud. You are awesome and it only gets better from here! You go girl!~ Phyllis 3.5 days...... i have not smoked for 3.5 days.... i cant help but get an urge here and there.. but so far, i have not given in. im hoping i dont start getting grouchy. we'll see. barbara
Guest guest
The only way they can tell if there is nicotine in your system is to do an " arterial blood gas " . MOST don't do this...... some do it while you are in surgery. They take a blood sample from the artery on the inside of your left wrist. So, if you are smoking, best to fess up, than for them to find out when it's too late. RE: 3.5 days...... > Barbara, maybe you should call and ask. Such a big effort to > make to quit - not at all easy. Hang in there. You deserve > the best! > Cheers! > Sharon in D.C. >
