Guest guest
<< Considering she's had an issue with changing his batteries and sends him to the nurses office, I really wonder if she's going to resent another technical thing she'll have to be involved in with the FM set up and daily check. The audi is looking into who she can get to be responsible for the daily check if the teacher is not receptive. Makes me worried. >> Just an aside: When we were deciding on who we wanted to request for Neal's teacher, one of the things we were looking for was a teacher who wouldn't be afraid of technology. We told the Principal that a teacher who would be afraid to set the clock on a VCR would definitely not be a good match. He immediately ruled out a few possibilities based on that. I know not everyone can " pick " their own teacher like we can since dh teaches at the school, but I would suggest to anyone with a ci kid that mentioning to whoever is in charge that willingness to work with technology is important when deciding on a teacher. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda - we always do that too. A technophobe isn't the teacher for either of my boys since " batteries ARE included! " . Guest guest
I think it's pretty important for the teacher to not be afraid of doing some of the technical things with our kids's devices and technology, but I think it's even more important for our kids to know how to do it, also. After several years of our girls's interpreters bringing the portable fm system from class to class, and plugging the battery pack in at the end of the day I finally put my foot down and told them and my daughter she was the deaf one, not the interpreters. She needed to carry her own fm system herself and make sure it got plugged in at the end of the day. I realized we were all enabling my daughter to be irresponsible for her own hearing devices. So, with that said, if your kids are not old enough to do these things themselves, I would suggest they at least help the teacher do it so they can learn how it's done when they get old enough to do it themselves. Guest guest
Interesting. I just found out that at my son's school, there is a different person responsible each day for checking his FM: one day the school nurse, another day the social worker, another day the principal. What's up with that?? This is his first year in the mainstream. I found out from the social worker that my son was the one who trained all of them on how to check his FM! We're due for a team meeting in a few weeks to evaluate how things are going, and I'm going to check up on this. As it is, he doesn't leave the house without MY checking the FM, and he changes his own batteries, so I'm not overly worried... Guest guest
Isn't that interesting? On the other hand, I think it's good to have more than one person who knows how to check his FM if someone is sick, etc... Kind of neat that the principal is one of those folks!
