Guest guest
Just started looking at all the bottles in my house - lo and behold - my deodorants number one ingredient is aluminum. And yes, I used it daily when I was pregnant. Re:Maureen: Chelation not our answer? > I cannot answer whether I have found a safe brand of sunscreen > inequivocally. Guest guest
It is the anti-perspirant part that has the aluminum. All do. I think you can avoid it if you just buy deodorant, but then you need to deal with moisture. Guest guest
You can make your own sunscreen. PABA (one of the B vitamins) is the main ingredient. I've got an untried recipe in one of my books if someone wants to try it. Basically you disolve crushed PABA tablets in water and then mix them into the cream of your choice. As was said in a previous post, you can take PABA internally as well to build up resistance to sunburn. I know that tablets are available in pharmacies. I rarely use sunscreen on my kids and I live in sunny South Africa. I make them wear a hat if they are outside for long. For the pool, when summer starts, I make sure that they get sun exposure slowly - starting at 5 minutes a day or so. Pool is a bit cool in Spring so they don't want to stay in long anyway. This helps them build up a tan and prevents burning. Some people feel that any sun exposure is bad but I don't believe that is true since the old health sanitariums used to deliberately put people in the sun as a form of treatment. Starting at 1 or 2 minutes a day and working up. Of course, getting burned is bad. Abby
Guest guest
There are some really good Al-free deodorants available at health food stores. My wife and I found and use Nature's Gate brand. Honestly, I was having real " pains " in my underarms and was wondering if something in the deodorants was effecting my glands. It took about three months of using a non-aluminum one and the pains disappeared totally. Re:Maureen: Chelation not our answer? > It is the anti-perspirant part that has the aluminum. All do.
