Guest guest
Hey All, The other day I was walking out of and Noble feeling utterly discouraged about Craig's book. For those of you who are new to this group, my son, Craig, wrote a book of poetry about his experience growing up with autism. It was published several years ago by a London publisher and is entitled, " Embracing the Sky " by Craig Romkema. (The book is on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and even walmart.com.) Because it was published in London, the book did not receive a lot of publicity here, or a lot of financial push to do so. We've been swamped with college and chelating, so we haven't had the time to do much in that direction. Also, it's pretty difficult for us to set up book signings, etc. or readings, since social situations are exactly what he has difficulty with! That's why the book is such an amazing thing, since he found a way OUT of his silence. Thus, the book has sold under 1,000 copies, which seriously depresses me, not because of the money (which is not much, believe me!) but because he spent a YEAR writing this, hoping to reach the thousands of families with newly-diagnosed children, and those of us who have lived with this difficult situation for awhile. Unless someone like Oprah picks this up (which she won't, since she isn't talking about autism these days) the book will fall away. Those of you who have read it, know that Craig's words are a significant addition to the autism literature. If everyone on this list bought one copy, 3,000 families could be reached. If y'all told your parents and families about it, even more could be comforted and encouraged by his words. If you told your autism groups, even more people would know. If you told your non-autism friends, more people would understand the world we live in. and Noble only stocks books that are selling fairly good numbers regularly. They will order the book in for anyone that asks, but we need the books out on the shelves. So, the Catch-22 situation keeps going . . . By the way, there's a rather direct poem in there about mercury poisoning! Forgive me, but I knew you would understand . . . Barb

If money's not the reason for the book why not put the book on-line and people all over the world can be reached.
Guest guest
Because we wanted it published in book form, not online.
