Quite a while back, they started having " mat " classes, but I wanted instruction on the equipment (not just on the floor with a mat, not the same to me). Wow, Marlena, I wish my Bally's had Pilates. So, you didn't try the mat classes? I have taken Pilates mat and flex ring classes and found them to be very benefial, really works those abs! In fact, that is what it mainly does. I have not tried instruction on the Alegro Reformer. I teach yoga (Iyenga discipline) and there are similar 'moves' to Pilates. Did you spring for the $299/6 deal? Let me know how you like it, ok? Guest guest
Pam, No, I never tried the Pilates Mat class. I've been interested in trying yoga but somehow haven't gotten around to " doing it " . I only signed up for the one FREE pilates Alegro Reformer class to see if I like it but, knowing me, if I do like it I'll sign up for the $299/6. I'll definitely keep you posted! -Marlena > >Wow, Marlena, I wish my Bally's had Pilates. So, you >didn't try the mat classes? Guest guest
I have Auntin's Pilates for everybody it came with Power Yoga Plus. They just seemed way to hard for me but it is something I want to be able to do. So i went out and got Pilates for Dummies. I haven't done it yet but I did watch it all the way through and plan to try it out tomarrow. It seems like a very good way to learn how to do the exercises. It even gives you a box in the corner of the screen that shows how to make the exercise easier or harder. If anyone is looking to get into Pilates and has never done any Pilates or yoga I think this might be the way to start. I posted this since we had been talking about the abs the last few days and someone mentioned pilates in those post. So Christy check this out. It's not the be all end all of the way to great abs but every little bit helps! I will let you know how it goes tomarrow after I do it. (Also got another 3 mile walk with so tomarrow is gonna be a exercised packed day for me!) Rhonda
Guest guest
Hello Hope, I would still do the ellip training or some form of cardio...you may want to increase the time you spend doing cardio. Cardio really is the thing to burn the fat. If you challenge your bod by doing interval cardio training, you will really get your bod into a fat burning mode. Here is what you can do: 5 mins warm up, 2 minutes fast interval (increase the resistance or the mph [you want to really work hard]), 4 minute slow interval (you want this time to let your body recover)...repeat 5 times. Then cool down for 5 minutes. Pilates will help strengthen your core (abs) and will start working deep in the muscle and work it's way out. You may not see the abs until you lose the fat on top of them. Terra Hope wrote: (I apologize in advance to anyone who may have already received this message. It did not appear in my inbox.) Hello everyone. I generally exercise at least 5 days a week (elliptical, weightlifting and situps). However, my mid-section is not toning up as fast as I would like (had a baby in Dec. '03). I am considering starting pilates now, as opposed to later. My goal was to lose all of my weight first, and then start pilates, because I do not think I will burn as many calories doing pilates as on the elliptical, thus increasing the time it will take for me to get to goal. Does anyone regularly do pilates? If so, please tell me how many days a week you do pilates, for how long and what results you've had. Please also include what form of pilates you do. (I have a Windsor Pilates 3-disc DVD set.) I would really appreciate any information you are willing to share. TIA! Guest guest
Great advice. I've always heard that interval training does wonders for the body, but have never tried it. Thanks, Terra!
