Guest guest
Hi , As Jody said, 2 weeks ago I thought for SURE I was hyper! I had shaky hands, high resting heart rate, insomnia and heart palpitations. I had labs within a few days of these symptoms and was shocked to find out I was hypo with a TSH of 8.72 and FT4 of 1.5! It was proof positive to me that our symptoms surely do overlap! I would like to see where your FreeT's are...but with a TSH that high, I think you are probably hypo. Any TSH of 3 or over is suspect for hypo, since most people feel at their best with a TSH of 2 or under and FreeT's at the high normal end. Guest guest
Hi , I just answered you on the hyper board. Let me know if any of those possibilities could fit. If not, your doctor can call and ask the lab to repeat the test. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Hi , Now I remember that you're on an ATD. And you're adding a bit of bugleweed so I think you may well have moved on to hypothyroidism. Rage definitely can occur in hypo. I think Red & I and someone else discussed this before. I think it's more of an irritability that makes you prepared to lash out, and it persists into hypoT. Palpitations can certainly occur in hypo. Why don't you go the standard route and check your temperature before you rise in the morning for a few days. Broda recommends 12 days, but after a few days you should have an idea if it's running low or high. If it's indeed 98 or so, indicating hyper, ask the doctor to request that the lab re-test the specimen. This happens all the time so shouldn't be a problem. Let us know how things turn out, Elaine
Guest guest
Hello Thanks for telling me of your experience. I didn't know shaky hands would come under hypo signs. What do you think of the asterixed ones in the email I've posted in answer to Jody?? I would really rather be cutting down my carbimazole rather than putting it up so I would be very happy if I could be convinced of being hypo. I'm hoping to get to a private lab next week to get T3 and T4 results - the NHS won't do them. Take care, Re: Elaine - help - totally confused Hi , As Jody said, 2 weeks ago I thought for SURE I was hyper! I had shaky hands, high resting heart rate, insomnia and heart palpitations. Guest guest
Thank you . I am trying to arrange private tests as I can't get T4 and T3 results through my GP or endo and when I get those I shall be comparing symptoms again. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Hello Elaine And I've just answered your answer on the hyper board. I do appreciate you taking the time to consider my problems. My doctor is trying to get some satisfactory answers but is up against a brick wall. I almost feel sorry for her - I doubt very much that the lab will do anything when she rings them. In the meantime I'm trying to arrange for private tests. Guest guest
Hello Elaine I've just upped the carbimazole and added the bugleweed tea in the last couple of days in response to my deciding that this is hyper and not hypo - so having done that has not brought on the high TSH as the blood was taken over 10 days ago. I find the rage thing quite distinct - when hyper I just erupt (much like I have all my life...) - when hypo, however, I tend to sink into depression and get tearful - I don't have that volcanic urge that I get when hyper. I'm taking your advice and starting to take my temp. Trouble is that I did it quite religiously for a while a few months ago too and it was low then when all my results indicated that I was not hypo... However, I shall persevere with it and see if any patterns emerge. Thank you again. Re: Elaine - help - totally confused Hi , Now I remember that you're on an ATD. Guest guest
When I was first found to have thyroid dysfunction, they went on the assmuption I had Grave's because my daughter had it. That first test doesn't distinguish between hyper, hypo, or much else than that the thyroid is not functioning properly. So, sometimes the Dr. takes a guess at that, because of other symptoms you are experiencing, and they aren't always right. That's been my experience, anyway. Guest guest
Thanks for your thoughts, Dottie. I'm afraid I have absolutely no faith in my doctor's knowledge - although I'm grateful for her willingness to work with me (although her hands are tied, too, to a large extent) - and have even less faith in the endo who I have now refused to see again - it stresses me out too much - I lie awake at nights worrying about it when his appointment is still over a month away...
