Guest guest
I am sure that some of the members here can help you, but it might also be helpful to post on the " embo " site. Many of the women there have had UAE and can answer your questions on how long it takes for the fibroids to shrink after UAE. The embo website is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/embo/ > I am now 2 month post UAE. I was hoping to have some response to > the procedure by now. Guest guest
Research your options on the hysterectomy. I had pressure on my bladder, frequent urination, etc., with one large fibroid at 8 cm. I had an abdo myo--very glad I did. You could look into a myomectomy--just do your research to find a doctor that is very experienced in myos. Remember, the doctors that don't know how to do myos usually seems to recommend a hysto right off the bat. Don't know about gastric bypass, but found a site on the LAP-BAND. (Ann of Heart gives monthly updates, and Carnie used the same procedure). Here is site: http://www.spotlighthealth.com/morbid_obesity/anns_story/anns_story.html from above, you could click on " support groups " and then ask on there if anyone has had a hysto, etc. > I just had an abdominal and pelvic CT scan for another > purpose and the results were that I had an enlarged uterus with > fibroids consistent with the MRI I had pre-UFE. Guest guest
Hi - EGT here - I am in the same " boat " as you. I had UAE and am perimenopausal. I had an MRI at 8 months post UAE, and the one large fibroid that I had actually GREW - did not shrink like it was supposed to. This happens because sometimes the main artery DOES block off the blood supply like it is supposed to, but instead the fibroid takes the blood supply from the ovaries (as mine did). I too was advised to go with the hysterectomy, but I am terrified of pain of post-surgery, even with pain killers. (I have no problem with the fibroids other than bladder pressure/frequent urination) So, I have decided to wait another 3 months to see how much closer I get towards menopause. Then, if necessary, I will try Lupron injections, with Aygestin as " add-back " as a last ditch effort before hysterectomy. I don't know anything about gastric bypass, but of course you should try to find the best surgeon in your area with a gastric bypass background (who has done MANY of them). Good luck! EGT Hysterectomy? I am now 2 month post UAE. I was hoping to have some response to the procedure by now. I had the embolization because even though I'm perimenopausal (no period for 11 months), my fibroids have not shrunk and are sitting on my bladder causing frequent urination and pelvic pain. I just had an abdominal and pelvic CT scan for another purpose and the results were that I had an enlarged uterus with fibroids consistent with the MRI I had pre-UFE. I have been told by my uro-gyn that she thinks I should have a hysterectomy. I'm not sure of what the questions are that I should take into consideration before I do so. Also, I am considering having a gastric bypass. Does anyone know if you can have that procedure if you have had a previous abdominal hysterectomy?
