T3 is the active thyroid hormone. T4 is a storage hormone. so if you're not converting as much T4 (assuming you're taking other thyroid hormone replacement) because you're also taking Cytomel, i could see that the T4 would not be used and might appear higher. anyone else? cindi
Guest guest
>>I know that you are not doctors here(sure seems like it though)LOL Does anyone know, if you just take t3, will it raise your t4?<< NO! Taking T4 only can raise T3 IF you convert in your body like you are supposed to, but most of us that are hypo do not convert as we should, some do better than others. Adding T3 will only raise T3 levels. In 's teachings he tries to " jump start " the thyroid with high even dosing of T3. Though he has many followers, I have my doubts. I tried it as close as I could simulate it with just T3 dosing, and it did not work for me. In spite of my apparent high requirements for T3 (I take 6 grains of Armour AND 75 mcg Cytomel, pure T3) this T3 only therapy did not make me feel well at all, nothing has except Armour & T3 together, which suggests the other hormones in Armour (T1, T2 & Calcitonin) are very necessary for me, if not for all of us! *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV Fat cat? Guest guest
Absolutely, unequivocally no, it will not raise T4. T3 is made from T4 by removing a molecule or atom of iodine. T4 has 4 molecules of iodine, and T3 has 3 molecules of iodine, and so on. Our thyroids originally made much more T4, and only a little bit of T3. Then, the T4 that goes into circulation meets the thyroid receptors on each cell membrane and is supposed to be changed into T3, which is the only way that a cell can accept it, other than changing it into T2, T1, and so on, depending on which body system or part the receptors are in. You're wondering something here, right? Probably the same thing I've wondered from time to time, maybe? Would the pituitary nag the thyroid for T4, if it realized that all the body was getting was T3? This is what I've wondered also, but it is the " hooked up " system from the adrenals, then the hypothalamus that keep watch on all this, and I do know that our bodies need T4 also, for specific reasons (the heart is one of them), or else our thyroids wouldn't be making the stuff naturally. Armour has 38 mcgs T4 and 9 mcgs T3 per one grain (60 mgs) dose. The pig's ratio of T4 to T3 is a little higher in T3 than our own natural thyroids used to make, but for most of us I think it's perfect, especially with the problems we have with resistance, for the most part. I don't think I've answered your question, as I'm not certain that the pituitary doesn't haggle the thyroid for T4, IF the hypothalamus does recognize the difference between T4 and T3, when it comes to specific requirements of specific body parts, before calling on the pituitary??? Question about t3?? > > > I know that you are not doctors here(sure seems like it though)LOL > Does anyone know, if you just take t3, will it raise your t4?
