Guest guest
Dear Debbie and Sis, Welcome to the GBIC website and email group! Did your surgeon send you both home on a liquid, soft or pureed food diet? Some of us leave the hospital on soft foods and others remain on liquids for several weeks. I did just fine on soft foods. I didn't eat very much (LOL) but strained soup, unsweetened oatmeal, unsweetened applesauce, sugar-free/fat-free yogurt and lots and lots of water helped me get through the first two weeks. I encourage you to visit Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks! and find a protein powder that you like. You can read all about Mom and Dad's weight loss journey and find out what works for them and thousands of others. I found my Champion Nutrition's ProScore 100 and their Pure Whey Stack protein powders, both in chocolate. I also encourage you to drink as much water as you can. Just sip, sip, sip, all day long. Fill up a glass with ice water and keep it with you wherever you go. Find an insulated cup with a lid (Weight Watchers sells a great cup!) and sip your water all day long. Water will help with your weight loss, your appetite, dilute toxins in your system, help your skin/hair/nails, and prevent kidney/bladder infections. Find an exercise plan that works for you. If you don't have chronic feet/leg problems, I recommend walking. Walk around your apartment/house until you feel strong enough to walk around your neighborhood or local mall. Lots of malls offer walking programs. I've discovered swimming and I absolutely LOVE it. Exercising in the deep water doesn't hurt my joints or my bad leg (I have DVT in my left leg). Take good care and remember to take one day at a time. God bless you both! Love, Trace in Va. Beach, VA Dr. Schechner, Va. Guest guest
TOO MUCH OF VITAMINS MAY CAUSE HARM Even though vitamins carry numerous health benefits, too much of them may cause such problems are liver troubles, hair loss and some neurologic disorders. The Mayo Clinic Health Letter points to vitamins A, D and B-6 as potentially dangerous at high doses. Vitamin A can promote healthy vision, bone growth, reproduction and regulation of the immune system, but exces- sive amounts -- more than 5,000 international units a day -- can lead to such adverse side effects as reduced bone mineral density, a risk factor for osteoporosis, and liver, hair and neurology problems. The recommended daily amount is 3,000 IU for men and 2,330 IU for women. Vitamin D helps the body absorb dietary calcium and deposit it in bones and teeth. The recommended amount is about 400 IU a day for people 51 to 70, 600 IU for those over 70. More than 2,000 IU a day may cause excessive urination, high blood pressure, calcium deposits in soft tissues (kidney stones) and kidney damage. Too much vitamin B-6 may damage nerves, leading to numbness of feet and hands, unsteady gait and impaired reflexes. The recom- mended amount for men over 50 is 1.7 milligrams daily and for women over 50, 1.5 mg/day. More than 100 mg/day can pose health risks, the letter cautioned. .. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
I do not take vitamins but I know I should. I should have asked my doctor what is good to take when I saw him last week. Oh well. I will ask my pharmacist or the guys at the vitamin shop down the street tomorrow. I want to stock up. I have been sick a lot lately and haven't been feeling 100% and I know vitamins will help. I'm still taking all my medications and my breathing is getting better but it's not 100% yet. I know it takes some time so I'm not giving up. I am just hoping and praying my chest xray and blood work come back normal. I should get the results this week. It's good to get all this taken care of but it is kind of scary. Sometimes I just feel like I don't want to know what's wrong and just ignore then I think...that's stupid. What if you wait too long and then it's too late? I have a few personal things " wrong " with me that I need to get " taken care " of and I have decided this is the year to do it. Looks like I will be spending the rest of the year at doctors and dentists but hey...that's what insurance is for. I am a firm believer that God did not put anyone on this earth to be in pain so go go go until you find out what's wrong and how to fix it or do everything you can to fix it. That's why Monday I will see the 5th doctor for my chest and neck pain. I've been praying that he has some ideas. I promise I'm not a hypocondriac (sp) and it's not all in my head. LOL! Or maybe it is. Maybe I should see a shrink next? LOL! KOPS LOVE, Vitamins Do any of you guys who keep getting sick, take Vitamins? I take a packet of multi vitamins everyday and some additional supplements like iron (not everyone needs additional iron though) and a fish oil capsule. Also when my grandson starts getting something, I start him on vitamin C supplement. It helps him more than OTC meds. Just a thought, and I work in an environment where germs can be spread very easily. I have not been really sick in ages. Now watch me get it. (Knock on wood) Melody, I hope you feel better soon and everyone else who has been affected. I also drink 3 cups of green tea a day and eat 1/2 ounce of walnuts with a small apple. Guest guest
I also take vitamins, and I always carry the antibacterial hand gel in ythe van ,car and purse ... dont get to many colds Hugs Helen ... Hamilton & Feeser wrote: >>>KATHIE S wrote: Do any of you guys who keep getting sick, take Vitamins? Yup, I take a multivitamin daily, along with 1,800 mg Calcium Citrate+D, Fish Oil/Omega 3 capsule, Folic Acid and vit. B-12. If someone around me is sick, I take extra Vit C and Zinc. I just recently started taking folic acid. On the news they were talking about a recent study that has shown that folic acid, which has long been prescribed during (and now suggested before) pregnancy to prevent serious birth defects, is helpful in preventing alzheimer's. http://www.alzheimers.org/nianews/nianews45.htmlI've been taking vitamins regularly since my last muscle disease flare. Because the disease that I have is auto-immune, something as simple as catching a cold/flu can send my immune system into over-drive and once again cause my immune system to make antibodies that destroy my own muscles/organs. I'm not taking any chances. Fortunately, I've not had a cold in over 5 years. (Everyone please take a moment to knock on wood and send up a prayer!) I'm like Jackie when it comes to germs from shopping carts, doors, etc. I keep a container of antibacterial hand gel in the door pocket of my truck and I use it everytime I get in.hugs,Janet Find your next car at Yahoo!
