Guest guest
Has anyone recently had United Healthcare cover a STARband in Florida? If so, what did you do to get them to approve it? I will be going to Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates in Orlando and they informed UHC has not covered a band in the last two years. However, I am still trying to get UHC to approve it. They have not denied it yet, but they informed me that since I am going Out of Network, they probably won't cover it (they do not have an In Network provider in the state of Florida). Thanks, and Aubrey (4 months)
Guest guest
I agree with Tammy. I heard that the general term " orthotics " does not apply to the helmet, that it sometimes only pertains to foot orthotics (shoe inserts, etc). My insurance plan has separate coverage for those types of orthotics. For me, the helmet actually fell under Durable Medical Equipment (walkers, wheel chairs, etc.), so you might want to check on that. Although I have also heard from another mom (and it might have been who posted a response to your message also, if not her, than it's been two moms I've heard this from) that United Healthcare won't cover an orthotic that changes a body part, like a helmet does. So that might just be something with United Healthcare. For BCBS, it actually listed a dynamic orthotic cranial (DOC) device in the list of other durable medical equipment, so the coverage was spelled out for me right in my benefits brochure. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am new to the group. I have been reading all the post in this group, and am so glad to find out all the helpful information that I can't get from our ped. Thank you all for all the great tips and info! I Just found out that my 6 months old has plagio. My ped told me that my insurance won't pay for the band and doesn't want to write me a prescription. I called the insurance( UHC) and was told it's not covered. I am planning to see another doctor and at the mean time would like to work on the insurance. I would like to get a copy of 's appeal letter too. , could you please email the appeal letter to me at lee523 . Guest guest
UHC is notorious for not paying, but many win on appeal. I think seeing another doc is a good idea. If you're not happy with his head shape now is the time to do something. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > From: <melissakyleclark@ ...> > > > Subject: Re: United Healthcare > > > Plagiocephaly > > > Date: Sunday, March 30, 2008, 2:21 PM > > > > > > > > > I have just spoken to them and our plan does not cover > > > orthotics. that is what the band is considered. you > > > will need to specifically ask for that if it is in > > > your plan. your plan is a contract between the > > > employer and the insurance company and they are > > > telling me even an appeal would not go through. > > > > > > United Healthcare > > > > > > > > > Does anybody have UnitedHealthcare. Guest guest
We had the evaluation at CT in NJ, and they are going to check the insurance and everything, but just from reading the messages on the board I am afraid the insurance will not approve if we decide to go ahead with the band. , could you please email the appeal letter to me at> totti.shikova@.... Guest guest
Hi, Hoping your visit with CT went Ok?. Unfortunately I think most of us here have listened to our doctors " it will round out or there is nothing wrong with our children's head " speech. But thanks to our mommy instincts which I would say everyone on this board eventually listens to which makes us go forward with treatments, most of the time against the doctor's word. My son was the same too as far as if you looked at him from the front or back it was his profile where I saw how asymmetric he was that made me push for treatment for my son. I noticed you said you were using CT in NJ, did you by any chance see Pervi? She is one of the most senior orthotist at this location and is the one I saw as well as a couple of other mom's on this board. How old is your son ? What were his measurments according to CT's evaluation? - Mom to CJ - 2yrs 1 mo old Doc Band Graduate 9/2007 > > > > Does anybody have UnitedHealthcare.
