Guest guest
I've never had a breast MRI so can't help you. But if it were me I would INSIST on a biopsy just for peace of mind. I had a suspicious mamm, ultrasound seemed to show something, but MRI was negative....showed nothing. My surgeon does not want to biopsy since he says he can't feel anything. Should I let it go or should I be worried? I am a 5-yr survivor and very fearful of the cancer returning in my other breast. I had a mastectomy in Sept. '01 followed by chemo. Guest guest
I would probably insist on a biopsy given your past history. No test is 100% accurate - there are always false positives and negatives. If they saw something on ultrasound they should be able to do an ultrasound-guided biopsy. Good luck. - In breastcancer2 , Alice wrote: > > Can anyone tell me how accurate a breast MRI is? Guest guest
I had a suspicious mass on ultra sound which was biopsied on the spot. The next day I had a MRI to get a handle on the size of the mass. With the contrast die the cancerous mass showed up perfectly and the demensions on the MRI were the same as the actual demsnsions of what was removed. Usually if anything MRI gives too many false positives. For peace of mind you might want a second opinion. Ruth > > Can anyone tell me how accurate a breast MRI is? Guest guest
Alice: I remember reading somewhere (just don't ask me where : ) that the reason mammos were still used instead of MRIs was because the MRIs failed to show as much. Have you asked about an ultrasound guided biopsy? I wouldn't let it go if it were me... - Jen : ) Stage 1c, Grade 3, ER- HER2+ Lumpectomy, SLNB, Mastectomy Diagnosed: 7/2006 (1st Mammo) On Wed, 18 Oct 2006 13:05:47 -0700 (PDT) Alice writes: > Can anyone tell me how accurate a breast MRI is? Guest guest
Alice, It should be no problem for your surgeon to do a Fine Needle Aspiration. Since there is no palpable mass, he's going to have to take a few samples in the area. My tumor didn't show up on standard imaging till it was 5 cm. So, ask firmly for a biopsy. Guest guest
HI I AM VERY NEW TO THIS GROUP. BUT I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I DID HAVE A MAMOGRAM, THEN A SONOGRAM AND THEN A MRI. EVERYTHING FROM START TO FINISH LOOKED SUSPICIOUS. I WENT TO THE BREAST CENTER WHERE THEY DID A CORE BIOPSY AND I AM WAITING FOR THE REPORT. I NOR THE DOCTOR COULD FEEL ANYTHING BUT IT SHOWED UP IN ALL OF THE TESTS THAT I HAD. I, TOO WOULD INSIST ON A BIOPSY. THATS WHY THEY HAVE ALL OF THOSE TESTS BECAUSE SOME CAN NOT BE FELT BY TOUCH BUT SHOW UP IN THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS. LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT. GOD BLESS DEE > > I've never had a breast MRI so can't help you. But if it were me I would INSIST on a biopsy just for peace of mind. Guest guest
One problem with a PET scan is that insurance companies often do not pay for it unless, well I don't know. I've heard it is difficult to justify PET scans to insurance companies. -Frances nancy thompson wrote: > ask for a pet scan..it shows all your body...take care nancy > > Classicaledmom@... wrote: Can anyone tell me how accurate a breast MRI is?
