Guest guest
It all depends upon your insurance how you can go about getting a second opinion. In our case we had to ask our ped for a second opinion and she put the referral in for us, fortunately without any difficulty. Some insurance companies allow you to go directly to a specialist without needing a referral. Perhaps someone on this board is in the Memphis area and can recommend someone to see. Besides a neurosurgeon, you can also see a plastic surgeon or a cranial facial specialist for an assessment. If you want to do a preliminary assessment yourself so you have information to show your ped you can check out the Cranial Technologies website - http://www.cranialtech.com/medicalinfo/identifyplagio.html Molly California Nicolas, 14.5 months, tort & plagio, STARband 4/25/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 3.75 , 7 How do you find an orthotist for a 2nd opinion? I noticed my daughters head was distinctly flat at her 2 month appt - pedi told us to wait until her 4 month that it was normal - at her 4 month appt I still was worried about it. He said it was moderately flat compared to most the babies he sees and sent us to a neurologist just for peace of mind. We were lucky and were able to get an appt the next week. We went to see a neurologist who did not measure or anything just felt our daughters head, ordered and X ray and told us it was positional plagio that would correct itself?? I left feeling so lost and a little more confused then when I got there. My daughters head is definately flat on one side (her photo is under M for Madison in the photo gallery) and I guess I just can't believe that her head will reshape on its own. She is only 4 months old so I felt like we were catching it at the most crucial time for the band to work. We have a follow up with the neurologist in March but she will be 6 1/2 months by then. And he said that the band was purely cosmetic anyway so insurance would not cover it. How do you go about getting a 2nd opinion? Should I call our pedi again?? I hear everyone talking about the orthotist being the crucial one, so how do you find an orthotist in the area? I live near Memphis, TN if anyone has any recomendations on where we should go. Thanks, - mom to Madison 4.5 months For more plagio info
